JOHN MARTIN DOSOII AND ALBERT WALTER DOSCH, OF KITTANNING, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOSE-NOZZLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,454, dated January 21, 1896.
Application filed July 5, 1895. Serial No. 555,013. (No model.)
To all whom it nzay concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN MARTIN Doscn and ALBERT WALTER DOSCH, of Kittanning, in the county of Armstrong and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hose-Nozzles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to an improvement in hose-nozzles adapted either for garden or for fire purposes; and the object of this invention is to provide a spraying-nozzle in which the spray will be thrown out from the nozzle in conical form covering a large area of space, and to provide a means for rendering the spray coarse or fine, the adjustment accomplishing this object being simple and con veniently and expeditiously accomplished.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a plan view of a hose-pipe having the improved nozzle applied. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the nozzle. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the nozzle detached from the hose-pipe, the said section being practically on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the spraying device disconnected from the nozzle, and Fig. 5 is an elevation of the nozzle applied to a gardensprinkler.
The improved nozzle A may be of any desired shape, and it is provided with an internally-threaded coupling 10 at one end for attachment to the hose-pipe B, while at the outer or reduced end of the nozzle an exterior thread 11 is made. The spraying-section C of the nozzle consists of abase-plate 12, which is preferably made circular, although it may have other form, and is provided with a central opening 13, the wall of which is threaded in order that the'plate may be screwed upon the exteriorly-threaded surface 11 of the nozzle. A yoke 14, preferably of a rigid material and of substantially inverted-U shape, is secured to the plate 12 upon its outer face,
the members of the yoke being at opposite sides of the central opening 13 and at equal distances therefrom. The yoke is adapted to suspend a cone 15 over the central opening 13 in the base-plate 12, and ordinarily the cone is provided with a head 16 of reduced diameter, through which the yoke passes and to whichit is secured. The apex of the cone is therefore made to point directly to the center of the base-opening 13, as is shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
The water emanating from the nozzle is received upon the cone and converted into spray and passes off from the cone in like form thereto, and the fineness or coarseness of the spray may be regulated by securing the baseplate 12 farther inward or outward on the nozzle, bringing the cone nearer to or farther from the mouth of the nozzle, which portion the cone centers. It is evident that, as shown in Fig. 5, the spraying-section may be attached to a stand-pipe 17 and together with said stand-pipe will form a lawn-sprinklerg or, as shown in Fig. 1, a forked nozzle A may be attached to the hose-pipe, one member 18 being adapted to deliver a solid stream, be-
ing in alignment with the-pipe, while the other member 19 is at an angle to the pipe and is fitted with the aforesaid spraying attachment O. In this event the nozzle is preferably provided with a three-way cook 20, in order that the solid or the spray stream may be brought into action, as desired. This nozzle is exceedingly durable and economic and is readily applied and effective in operation.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A spraying attachment for nozzles, the same consisting of a flat base plate having a central screw threaded opening, and adapted to screw upon the threaded end of a nozzle, ayoke of substantially inverted U -shape having its parallel members secured to the outer face of the base plate at opposite sides of the central opening and at equal distances therefrom, and a cone carried by the yoke and having its apex substantially centering the opening in the base plate, as and for the purpose specified.
.2. The combination with a nozzle having an exterior thread at its delivery end, of a base plate of substantially disk shape having a central threaded opening and adapted to screw upon the threaded end of the nozzle, a yoke of substantially inverted U-shape having the ends of its parallel arms secured in apertures formed in the said base plate at opposite sides of the central opening, and a cone having a reduced head through which the said yoke passes, the cone being secured to the yoke and the apex of the cone centering the end of the nozzle, as and for the purpose specified.
3. Ahose nozzle of forked construction, one of the members havin g-a screw-threaded end,
