CORN-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,249, dated January 21, 1896.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CARL E. MALMQUIST, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Long Island City, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to table implements, and particularly to that class thereof known as corn-holders, and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective device by which ears of hot corn may be held and manipulated Without applying the hands thereto.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my improved cornholder, and Fig 2 a plan view thereof.

In the practice of my invention I provide a corn-holder which is composed of two wires or rods, which are bent into similar forms, and united as hereinafter described. One of the wires is bent to form a horizontal portion A, and one end thereof is bent downwardly to form a handle a and provided at its lower end with a base piece or foot (1/, and the other end is bent to form a spring-ring a from which the end of the wire or rod is directed upwardly to form an arm a at the upper end of which is a cup-shaped holder a, provided around its edges with inwardly-directed claws or projections a The other wire is bent to form a horizontal portion B, similar to the part A, above described, and one end of which is bent downwardly to form a handle or support b, at the bottom of which is a base piece or foot I), and the other end of the wire B is bent to form a spring-ring 19 from which the wire is bent upwardly to form an arm D which is parallel with the arm a and at the upper end of which is an inwardly-directed cup-shaped holder b the rim of which is provided with inwardly-directed claws or projections 6 The horizontal portions A and B are united by a sleeve G, into which passes a set-screw D, provided with a cross head or bar E, and by means of this device the said horizontal portions A and B are adjustable and may be held in any desired position, and the arms a and b? may thus be brought together or separated, as desired. The base supports or feet a and b are also preferably provided with projecting claws a and I), respectively, and the operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. An ear of corn of any desired length may be placed between the cupshaped holders a and b and securely held thereby, and in this operation the arms a and b may be drawn together or separated, as will be readily understood, and held in any desired position by the sleeve 0 and the setscrew D, said setscrew being designed to operate as a clamp. I also prefer to form the cup-shaped holders a and 1) independent of the arms a and b and to revolubly mount the same thereon, as clearly indicated in the drawings, in order that an ear of corn supported thereby may be revoluble, and by means of which the manipulation thereof may be more easily accomplished.

My invention is not limited to the exact form, construction and arrangement of the separate parts as shown and described, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such alterations therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.

Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Acorn holder, composed of two separate wires or rods, each of which is bent to form a horizontal portion, a sleeve provided with a set screw, through which said horizontal portions are passed, one end of each wire being bent downwardly to form handles and provided with base pieces or supports, and the opposite ends being formed into spring rings, and directed upwardly at right angles to the horizontal portions to form arms, at the ends of which are cup shaped holders which are directed inwardly, substantially as shown and described.

2. A corn holder, composed of two separate wires, or rods, each of which is bent to form a horizontal portion, a sleeve provided with a set screw, through which said horizontal portions are passed, one end of each wire being bent downwardly to form handles and provided with base pieces or supports, and the opposite ends being formed into spring rings, are directed upwardly at right angles to the horizontal portions to form arms, at the ends of which are cup shaped holders which are directed inwardly, said cup shaped holders being provided with inwardly directed claws or projections, substantially as shown and described.

3. A corn holder composed of two separate wires or rods each of which is bent to form a horizontal portion, a sleeve provided With a set screw through which said horizontal portions are passed, one end of each Wire being bent downwardly to form handles, and the opposite ends being formed into spring rings, and directed upwardly or outwardly at right angles to the horizontal portions to form arms, at the ends of which are revolubly mounted cup shaped holders which are directed inwardly, substantially as shown and described.
