CURTAIN STRETCHER-PIN.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,127, dated January 14, 1896.

Application led February l5, 1895. Serial No. 538,481. (No model.)

T0 all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES P. MCALISTER, a citizen of the United States,residin g at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Curtain Stretcher-Pins, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the improvement of that class of curtain stretcher-pins which are particularly adapted for use in stretching and drying lace curtains and other articles.

The objects of my invention are to provide pins of this class of simple and inexpensive construction which may be effectively ernployed in stretching a curtain for drying on a carpet, iioor, or other surface, and to produce other improvements in details of construction, which will be more fully pointed out hereinafter. These objects Iaccomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a View in perspective of one of my improved pins. Fig. 2 is a sectional View of a portion of a iioor, a carpet, and a curtain thereon, showing one of my improved pins in v use; and Fig. 3 is an end view of the same.

Similar letters refer to similar parts throu ghout the several views.

My improved pin, which is preferably formed of spring-wire, consists of a substantially-straight portion a, the inner end portion of which terminates in an upturned hook portion b, which may be sharpened at its eX- tremity, as indicated in the drawings.

The rear portion of the pin-body a is provided with an upwardly-projecting shoulder portion or finger-piece c, consisting of an upturned loop, the wire forming the same being made to pass downward through one or more coils c formed in the body c and terminating, as indicated at CZ, in a downwardly and inwardly inclined spur.

In order to strengthen the pin-body at the junction of the straight portion d and hook b, I flatten the wire, as indicated at e. The pins thus formed are designed, as indicated in Fig.

2 of the drawings, to be adapted for use in .pinning or fastening the edges of lace and other similar curtains to a carpet or floor for the purpose of drying said curtains. Asis well known, ordinary straight pins are usually employed for this purpose; but the pin herein shown and described possesses many advantages over the use of said ordinary pins. The manner of utilizing mydevice consistsin engaging the edges of the curtain at desirable intervals with the hook projections h, as indicated in Fig. 2, and after drawing the pins outward to impart the desired stretch or tension on the curtain the spur CZ is, as shown in the drawings, engaged with the carpet f or other surface on which the curtain is stretched. In this operation it isevident that the loop-shoiilder c may be employed as a iinger-piece in manipulating the pin, and that when it is desired to increase or decrease the tension on the curtain the pin-spurs may be readily disengaged from their connection with the carpet or iioor and engaged at new points therewith.

It is evident from the construction herein shown and described that these pins may be produced at a reasonable cost of manufacture and that the same will be of great service in producing a pin connection of curtains with any surface on which the same may be dried.

Having now fully described my invention,

what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A curtain stretcher pin consisting of a sec* tion of wire having one of its ends turned upward to form a hook b, an upwardly projecting loop c formed in the outer portion of said pin, a coil c formed at the junction of said loop and pin body, said loop terminating in a spur portion d which extends downward through said coil c and is forwardly inclined, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
