WIRE PASTBNING POR BOTTLE STOPPEBS.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
F PAUL OTTMAR wALoi-i, oF PARIS, FRANCE.
WIRE FASTENING FOR BAOTTLE-STOPPERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 402,370, dated April 30, 1889. Application filed August 8, 1888l Serial No. 282,250l (No model.) Patented in France March 13, 1888, No. 189,318.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PAUL OTTMAR WALCH, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire Fastenings for Bottle-Stoppers, (for which I obtained a patent in France, March 13, 1888, numbered l89,3l8,) of which the following' is a specification.
This invention relates to a wire fastener for bottle-Stoppers made from one continuous length of wire, and which can be opened without cutting the wire.
The invention consists in the various features of improvement more fully` pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved wire fastener. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same when closed, showing it applied to a bottle. Fig. 3 is a similar elevation, but showing it open. v
My improved wire fastener is made from one continuous length of wire; but it will be necessary to designate the dierent parts of this wire by different letters of reference, so that the drawings may be more easily followed.
Beginning at the point a, the wire has a straight section, b, and is then bent upon itself to form the twist c, with large open-end loop, d. From twist c the wire is again straight, as at e, then runs up as a single corrugated shank, f, terminating in a straight portion, g." From portion g the wire is run down and up to form the corrugated shank h, having a loop, 71.', at its foot. In similar manner the wire is continued to form straight portion i, corrugated shank j, with loop j', straight portion lc, corrugated shank Z, with loop'Z, and straight portion m. From here the wire is bent down, as at fn, and intertwisted with shank f to form corrugated shank n f. Thence the wire o is passed through the loops h j, terminating at point p,
The section b is passed 'through the loop l', and the two ends a p may be intertwisted, Fig. 2, to close the wire around the neck of a bottle, A. Itwill be seen that the portionsg c' 7c 'm form, in effect, a square frame resting upon the top of cork B, while the portions b e o form, in effect, a neck-wire. This neckwire has the twist c with loop d. To remove the cork from a bottle, it is only necessary to untwist the portion c, Fig. 3, when the neckwire will be so much enlarged as to permit the slipping of the entire contrivance over the neck and cork.
A wire fastener composed of a length of wire bent to form a series of twisted shanks connected on top and terminating in loops at their lower ends, and to form a neck-wire which is provided with a twisted portion, c, and loop d, and which passes through the loops at the ends of the twisted Shanks, substantially as specified.,
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
PAUL OTTMAR WALCH.-
Witnesses ERNEST GASTON, MAURY.
