HYD-RO-EXTRACTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,550, dated January '7, 1896.
Application filed July 1, 1892. Serial No. 438,668. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO W. SOHAUM, of the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hydro-Extract ors, of which the following is a true and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to hydro-extractors of the same general character as that described in the patent to W. P. Uhlinger granted August 22, 1876, and numbered 181,500, my present invention having for its object to provide improved means for suspending the entire apparatus so as to obviate or minimize the vibrations communicated from the machine to the floor or foundation upon which it is situated. This result I accomplish by suspending the tub upon a series of slightlydiverging links or rods which are made ad; justable.
The nature of my invention will be best understood as described in connection with the drawings in which it is illustrated, and in which- I Figure 1 is an elevation of the improved hydro-extractor taken on the section-line 1 2 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view taken on the section-line 3 1 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation showing a cleaning-door in the tub, and Fig. 4 a section on line 5 6 of Fig. 2.
A represents the tub having a bottom flange A reinforced, as indicated at A ,where the pivots of the suspending-rods are connected with it. A cavity of spherical outline, as indicated at a, is formed in each of these reinforcements A.
B B, &c., indicate a series of standards having projecting heads B, in the top of which are formed cavities of spherical outline, as indicated at b.
O and D are rods provided at one end with heads of spherical form, which heads are indicated at O" and D, and fit respectively into sockets b and a, forming a ball-and-socket The other ends of the rods 0 and D are provided with screw-threads running in opposite direction, and the two rods are connected by a turnbuckle E, also having right and left threads, and which engage the threaded ends of rods O and D. This construction enables me to adjust the length of the suspended rods made up in the way described readily and conveniently, and 0bviates the necessity of having any projection screwed on above the top of the standards.
It will-be noticed that the suspending-rods are set at slightly-diverging angles. This I have found to be a feature of material advantage, for, while it permits a sufficient free dom of motion to take. up undue jar, it pre vents an undue swinging of the tub.
Another feature of my invention is the opening A formed through the seat of the tub A and provided with a door L, which is secured in place by bolts 1 Z, and to which I prefer to secure the upper part Z of a spout Z a lead ing from a drain-passage A in the tub. The opening A gives me access to the outside of the basket G, and enables me to keep it clean without removing it from the tub.
The remaining features of my device shown consist of the shaft F stepped in a projection A at the bottom of the tub and to which is secured the perforated basket Gr. The upper part of the shaft is supported by the end of a bracket I-I secured to the edge of the tub, as shown, and which supports also the engine indicated at I, the connecting-rod K of which communicates motion to the shaft of acrankdisk J.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a hydro-extractor the combination with a tub A of a series of swing rods set at diverging angles adapted to support the tub, supports for said rods and means for adjusting them longitudinally, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a hydro extractor the combination with a tub A with a series of threaded rods D D secured to the tubby ball and socket joints, a series of rods 0 O threaded in opposite direction to rods D, a series of turn-buckles E uniting the rods DO,- standards B and ball and socket joints uniting rods 0 with the standards.
3. In a hydro-extractor the combination with a tub A with a series of threaded rods D D secured to the tub byball and socket joints, aseries of rods 0 O threaded in opposite direction to rods 1), a series of turn buckles E unit ing the rods D.
