Description

Z. GUZIK.
(No Model.)
BEDDING.
No. 552,472. Patented Dec. 31, 1895.
WIT/VE 5% UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ZALAL GUZIK, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
BEDDING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,472, dated December 31, 1895.
Application filed AprillZ, 1895. Serial No. 545,536. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ZALAL GUZIK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, county and State of New York,
have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bedding, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mattresses, bolsters and quilts, which combined together are a complete bed for purposes as explained in the following description; and the object of these improvements is to secure a cheap, comfortable and easilytransportable bed for travelers, excursionists and for general use.
It consists of a combination of a mattress, bolster with springs and a quilt, having the arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter substantially set forth, and iinally be embodied in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the views, Fig-- ure l shows the combination of the mattress, bolster and quilt. Fig. 2 shows the combination of a frame and springs used in the bolster.
In the said drawings, A is a mattress and C a part of it which serves as bolster. At the end which is indicated by C are on both sides inserted wedge-formed pieces, of the same material of which the mattress is made, about one-fifth of the entire length of the mattress. These pieces increase gradually the thickness of that end and provide space for a wedge-formed frame (shown in Fig. 2) which is inserted into it.
The frame is made of stiff wire and consists of two frames r and fo, each one having the shape of a right-angled parallelogram, and are on one side connected together by coil-springs a and o. Said springs c and o,
together with c, keep the frame open-that means, to hold the two frames r and o on the unconnected side apart, so as to form a wedge, as shown in Fig. 2. These springs must be so strong as to resist the pressure under which they are when the sleepers head rests upon them. The upper frame is also strengthened by cross-bars d c f g. Bolster C has the advantage of being light, comfortable, and when pressed together by folding does not take much space. This frame can be used also for head-holsters in general.
Quilt or cover B is attached to the mattress A so that one end of the quilt reaches only to the bolster C and the other extends over the mattress.
If a person lies down on the mattress A and cover B is turned over him it does not cover his head but extends over his feet. Vhen not in use it can be folded and rolled into a small roll and, provided with straps and handle, can be easily carried along.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the mattress A having on both sides, at the end indicated by C, inserted wedge-shaped pieces, gradually increasing the thickness of that end and providingv space for V shaped frame, and the two parallelogram-shaped wire frames r and fu connected together by coil springs a and b, so, as to form a V shaped double frame, all as shown and described and for purposes as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 28th day of March,
ZALAL GUZIK. W'itnesses:
BERNHARD BLocK, SAM RozENvAssER.
