WILL M. KINNARD, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE OARTER-ORUME COMPANY, OF NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK.
GROCERS DISH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 551,900, dated December 24, 1895.
Application filed January 11, 1 895.
To all 'whom it may concern.-
.Be it known that I, WILL M. KINNARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to vessels or dishes for use by grocers and storekeepers for the sale of lard, butter, pickles, sirup, berries, and the like, which are known in the trade as grocers butter-dishes.
The object of my invention is to furnish a dish possessing the qualities of strength, durability, and water-tightness; and it relates to that class of dishes in which the vessel is formed out of a plurality of blanks, in'which parts of the blanks have been cut away, so
by bringing together the edges of the cut portions, and so that, when the two blanks are placed together, the seams will not register.
The improvement here consists of certain novel construction and arrangement of blanks to be hereinafter more particularly pointed out and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of the outer blank. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the inner blank. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the outer blank in process of folding. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the complete dish.
In forming my dish two blanks A and B are cut from a sheet of paper, cardboard, veneer, or any other suitable material of the shape shown in Figs. 1 and 2. These two blanks A and B are ofsimilar shape except that the blank A, which is to form the outer surface of the dish, is made somewhat larger and is scored, as shown by the dotted lines cab in Fig.
1. The dish is formed by applying glue along Serial No. 534,523. on; model.)
the edge-of the upper surface of the portion 0 of the blank A which is to form the bottom of the dish, and the edges 01 d of the cut-out portions of this blank are brought together so that they will just meet, which brings the parts e e of the blank on top of the bottom G, where these portions are securely fastened by the adhesive material. Glue or other suitable material is then applied to the inner surface of the blank A, along the upper edges of the form and in the bottom, and the blank B is then placed over this blank A, which has thus been brought to shape, and the edges f f brought together and the bottom 9 forced down onto 0. In thus fitting together the two blanks the cut-out portions of the tWo blanks are brought opposite each other, so that the seams in the side Walls will be opposite and will not register.
A dish formed in this way of a plurality of blanks can be made of thin and inexpensive material, and will be perfectly water-tight and at the same time of smooth finish both.
inside and out, and when complete it will have all the appearance of a dish manufactured from a single blank.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a dish, the combination of a plurality of superimposed blanks of similar shape, one at least of which is provided with overlapping
