UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
IIJALMAR LINDESTROM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO NELS P. WALTER, OF SAME PLACE.
wHEELEDPLow.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 551,215, dated December 10, 1895.
Application filed February 13 1895. Serial No. 538,308. (No model.) v
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HJALMAR LINDEsrRoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Wheeled Plows, of which the following is a speciiication.
The object of this invention is to simplify fthe construction of wheeled plows without impairing their efficiency.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a plan view of my improved plow. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the supportingwheels removed to more clearly show the construction. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the axle. Fig. 4 is a transverse section of a section of the plow-beam and frictional holding device for the caster-wheel.
The axle 1 has a furrow-wheel 2, located upon one end. To the main portion of the axle is secured a frame composed of the tubular sections 3 and 4, surrounding the axle, and tubular sections 5 and 6 support a short shaft 7. These tubular sections are joined by the bars 8 and strengthened by the crossbar 9. From the upper face of the tubular section 4 rises a projection or guide 10, and from the tubular section 3 rises a notch-sector 11. Between the ends of the tubular sections 3 and 4, uponv the axle 1, is located a support 12. From its upper face rises an arm 13, to which is secured a hand-lever 14, provided with the 'usual thumb-lever, the dog of the lever engaging the teeth of the sector, thereby forming a connection between the hand-lever and axle.
Between the ends of the tubular sections 5 and 6, upon the shaft 7, is located a support 15. From its upper face rises two perforated ears 16, and to this support is' secured the drivers seat 17. A plow-beam 18 is located between the ears 16 and partially connected therewith by the pin 19. This beam extends forward and is guided between the projection 10 and arm 13, holding it from lateral movement. p From the support 12 extends a horizontal arm 20, its free end having a connection with the plow-beam through the link 21. A plow 22 and colter 23 are supported by the plowbeam. A collar 24 is pinned or otherwise secured to the axle, and from its upper face risesa toothed sector 25. Between this collar and tubular section 4 upon the axle is located a crank 26, supporting a stub-axle 27, upon which is placed the land-wheel 28.
From the upper face of this crank rises an arm 29, to which is secured a hand-lever 30, provided with a thumb-lever, its bolt engaging the teeth of the sector 25, thereby forming a connection between the land and furrow wheels.v
The rear end of the plow-beam is supported by a caster-wheel 31, in swiveled manner, and tothe upper end of the shank of the casterwheel extends an arm 32, having its upper face crowning. A spring 33 is secured to the plow-beam, having its free end bent to form a recess which receives the arm 32.
When the plow is at work, the spring 33 will hold the caster-wheel in the direction of the plow-beam, and in turning corners the arm will become disengaged from the spring.
By the movement of the hand-lever 14 the plow may be raised and lowered, and the hand-lever 30 permits of the adjustment of the land-wheel. v
I claim as my invention- 1. In a wheeled plow the combination of an axle, a shaft located in rear of the axle, a frame supported by the axle and supporting the shaft, a sleeve supported by the shaft having ears, a plow beam located between the ears and pivotally connected therewith, a lever supported by the axle and connected with vthe plow beam.
2. In a wheeled plow the combination of an axle, a shaft located in rear of the axle, a
frame supported by the axle and supporting the shaft, a plow beam supported by the shaft at one end and its forward end having a linked connection with the axle.
HJ ALMAR LINDESTROM. Witnesses:
C. G. CHINLUND, C. B. BERGQUIST.
It is hereby certified that Letters Patent No.v 551,215, granted December 10, 1895, upon the application of Hjalmar Lindestrom, of Chicago, Illinois, for an improvement in Wheeled Plows, Were erroneously issued to Hjalmar Lindestrom and Nels P. Walter, as owners of the entire interest in said invention; Whereas said Letters Patent should have been issued to said Lindestrom and Nets P. Walter and Andrew Walter, said Andrew Waiter being joint owner with Nels P. Walter of one-half interest in said invention as shown by assignments of record in this ofce; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform 4 to the record of the case in the Patent Office.
Signed, countersigned, and sealed this 31st day of December, 1895.
