G, 'LAUBE.
COMBINED NIPPERS AND NAIL FULLER.
NO. 550,981. PatentedDem'lO, 1895 Lawn/Z07 I WM 9 M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GODFRIED LAUBE, OF HURON, SOUTH DAKOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CURTIS JOHNSON, OF RIVER FALLS, WISCONSIN.
COMBINED NIPPERS AND NAlL-PULLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 550,981, dated December 10, 1895.
Application filed August 22, 1894. Serial No. 520,998. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GODFRIED LAUBE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Huron, in the county of Beadle and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Nippers and Nail-Puller, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a certain new and useful combination-tool consisting of nippers and nail-puller, the following being such a full, clear, and exact description that others skilled in the art may make and use the same.
The object of the invention is to produce a combined tool at a minimum cost that will efficiently perform the functions of the tools above named, be strong and durable, and satisfactory in use.
WVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and specifically claimed.
I11 illustrating and describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts in the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my combined nippers and nail-puller. Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a view in side elevation showing the relative position of the parts.
In the drawings, 1 1 denote the handles of the nippers, held normally separated by the interposed coil-spring 2, while the jaws and cutting-edges of the nippers here shown are of the well-known construction, it being understood that the nail-pulling device may be applied to nippers of varying forms now in common use with equal advantage.
To the curved jaws 3 are secured on their inner surface arms 4, lying at right angles to the jaws, which are firmly held in position by rivets, or they may be secured in any desired manner. These arms have a smooth, fiat, or slightly-rounded end surface, whereby the opposite ends are driven into the wood by a hammer or the like, the rounded portion 5 serving to guide the points inwardly toward the nail as it is driven home. The notches 6 are provided that a firm grip may be had under the head of the nail. The arrangement of the arms is such that they will not interfere with the cutting-edges of the nippers, and yet are so arranged as to be easily and effectually manipulated, producing a cheap and efficient tool.
It will be understood that changes may be made in the form of the arms and their location on the jaws; furthermore, that other changes may be made in the details of 0011- struction without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A combination tool consisting of nippers, arms arranged on the jaws of the nippers transversely thereof, said arms having their ends curved toward each other with the opposite ends flattened, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GODFRIED LAUBE.
