Description

STATES PATENT OFFICE GEO. P. FOSTER, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SASH-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 5,505, dated April 11, 1848.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. FOSTER, of Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a New Method of Constructing Window-Supporters; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification.
The nat-ure of my invention consists in providing a spring within and to be attached to the sash of a window, so that this spring may press upon the frame or munting, surrounding the window; that is upon its sides, for the purpose of .holding the sash in its place when the same is put up, or at any place between its proper resting place and other places within its extent of movement.
I make a spring as seen in the drawings Figures I, II, II, Fig. I, being a spring as set in the sash, shows the method of fastening and applying the spring. Fig. II, is a flat View of the spring. Fig. III, is an edge view of the spring.
Two screws as (a) fasten the spring in its place and retain it firmly; (0,) is a friction roller to run upon the munting; (d) is a hook or catch, by which the spring may be relieved from pressure on the munting.
The pressure of the spring is removed by use of a lever, (e), having a set fulcrum (7), and its point in a hook, to act upon the hook (d), in the spring. y
It will be readily understood by reference to Fig. I; supplying weight to the long end of the lever presses it down and relieves the pressure on the munting. The lever (e), is better seen in a view of it, Fig. IV. Figs. V, and VI, show two views of a spring to act at both ends on the munting, and the pressure lever to act on one end only, as well as clearly showing the method of fastening the spring tothe sash. Figs. VII, and VIII, are side and edge views of a plate of metal to be placed on the munting for the springs and their rollers to work upon.
IVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The lever spring (5,) with its hook (cZ,) the lever (6,) with its hook corresponding and to catch into the hook of the spring, in combination with the sash, so as to press on the munting as herein described and set forth.
GEO. P. FOSTER.
