SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 550,230, dated November 19, 1895.

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ERNST SCHILG, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bakers Oven Supplied with Light; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a door and frame therefor which can be applied to any oven to form an opening through the top edge of the door through which a person can inspect the interior of the oven at any time, and to provide the gas-jet with an adjustable reflector, so as to throw the light in any part of the oven.

This invention relates to a bakers oven of the character described in my patent issued February 19, 1895, and numbered 534,379; and it consists in the combination and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described hereinafter.

It also consists of the peculiar arrangement and combination of parts more fully described hereinafter, and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several views where they occur, Figure 1 is a front elevation of an oven embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a front elevation having the door of the baking-chamber removed, also the gas-inlet pipe partly broken. Fig. 3 is an enlarged central vertical section on the line so 00 of Fig. 1.

In said drawings, a represents the firechamber, and b the hearth or baking chamber having an air-chamber 0 below the said hearth or baking chamber.

I do not claim the construction of the oven, as any may be used with my improvement without departing from the spirit of my invention.

The door cl to the baking-chamber b is hinged, as at e, upon the framework f of the door-casing, said door d having an opening g in the upper edge thereof. The slot through the upward extension of the door is for the to the lower portion, and thus keep the door open when so desired. The upper edge of the door above the slot also serves as a protector for the eyes in inspecting the oven; otherwise the operator would have to look through the flame, whereas when the slot is used he looks down under it. On this framework f is secured a horizontal platform It for closing the said baking-chamber and prevent the escape of any heat from the chamber, as will be understood upon referring to Fig. 3. At

the back of this casing or framework f is a vertical partition 2', having an opening j, this opening j being provided with a glass 70. At the front of this framework is another partition Z, having an opening an to admit of light into the baking-chamber when the gas-flame nis not in use. Upon this platform h is placed a gas-pipe n, attached at one end to the gas-meter (not shown) and having aburner n around which is placed a reflector 0, which can be turned at any desired position, so as to throw the light in all parts of the baking-chamber, as will be readily understood upon reference to the drawings.

I do not wish to be understood as limiting o myself to the exact construction shown, as

various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-- 1. An oven door having its upper edge projecting above the pivots upon which the door turns and which door is provided with a slot or opening, combined with the chamber above the door having a window through its rear wall and two openings through its front one, substantially as shown.

2. The frame, having a chamber formed in The upward extension of the 60 its top, which chamber is provided with a indow in its rear Wall, and suitable openings through its front one for the admission of light and to enable a person to inspect the interior, combined with a gas jet, an adjustable reflector applied to the jet, and the oven door, substantially as described.

3. The frame, having a chamber formed in its top, which chamber is provided With a WindoW through its rear Wall, and two openings through its front one; the gas jet, an adj ustable reflector applied thereto; combined With the oven door having its upper edge extending above the bottom of the chamber, and provided With a slot or opening which corresponds to the lower opening in the front Wall of the chamber, substantially as set forth.
