BASIN-PLUG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 549,702, dated November 12, 1895.
Application filed October 26, 1893. Serial No. 489,161. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY O. CANFIELD, a citizen of the United'States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Basin- Plugs; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull,clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to. simplify and cheapen the construction of basin-plugs, and at the same time to greatly increase their strength and durability in use. With these ends in View I have devised the novel basin-.
plug which I will now describe, referring by numbers to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of my novel basinplug; Fig. 2, a section on the line m min Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a section ona line at right angles to the line of Fig. 1, showing a metallic loop molded into the ear for the purpose of strengtheningthe attachment of the ring and rendering it impossible for the ring to be torn out in use.
1 denotes the body of the plug,and 2 the ear. These I mold in solid rubber or other suitable composition-that is, without a core. The ear is provided with a hole 3 to receive the attaching-ring 4. On opposite sides of the ear I place metallic washers 5 and pass through the hole a tube 6, the ends of which are headed down, as at 7 upon the outer faces of the washers.
In certain classes of plugs where the greatest possible strength is required I mold within the body of the plug and the ear a loop 8, of metal. The portion of this loop lying within the body is provided with holding lugs 9, which are molded therein, so as to render it practically impossible to tear the ring out of the ear or to detach the ear from the body, all ordinary styles of chain and the ring itself being weaker than the ear of the plug when constructed in this manner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- A basin plug consisting of a body and ear moldedin solid rubber, said ear having ahole through it to receive a ring and said ear and body having molded within them a metallic loop provided with holding lugs molded in the body so that it is rendered impossible to tear out the ring, or to detach the ear from the body.
