Description
UNITED STATES 'GEORGE E. EoOrE, OE NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOOL- HOLDERS FOR DENTISTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 54,882, dated May 22, 1866.
To all whom 'it 'may awww/n.: Be it known that I, GEO. F. FOUTE, of the city and county ofNew York, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Tool and Rack for Dental Purposes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part ot' this Specification, in Which- Figure I is a perspective. are sectional elevations.
1n the ordinary operations of preparing cavities in teeth and fillings the points or tools are immovably connected to their handles.
1n the use of my improved tool and too]- rack it is de-signied to dispense with so many handles, and enable the operator, with one handle or tool-holder, to change his points or tools with the greatest facility, the points being arranged and classified so as to catch the eye at a glance, saving much time usually spent in searching for instruments. l
Fig. III represents the tool, and is lnade of the best Stubs steel Wire No. 36. The upper end is slightly tapered to fit a corresponding socket in the tool holder or handle. It is flat- Figs. Il and Ill tened atN to fit a corresponding-sized slot, P, Fig. Il, in the tool-rack, and is from one to two inches long.
Fig. II is the tool-rack, about seven inches long by 011e wide, made from No. 14 sheet-iron, with square slots P cut at about halt' an inch apart. Fig. I is a perspective of the same, fastened to a block of Wood with a tool suspended in it. 1
The change of tools by inserting the flattened portion into one of the slots P of the rack, which, While it holds, prevents it from turning, and with a slight rotary motion of the handle the tool is loosened and the change easily made, leaving the tool on the rack.
What; l claim, and Wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination oi' the slot P in the toolf rack with the flattened surface N ot' the tool, aud its upper point, C, iitting a corresponding socket of a tool-holder, for the purposes herein set forth.
GEO. F. FOOTE.
