VKATENT' a WARREN J. BAKER, OF SALEM, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALE1 TO ANANIAS i FRANTZ, OF SAME PLACE.
POST FOR WlRE FENCES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,000, dated September 10,1895.
Application filed May 13, 1895. Serial No. 549,035- (NO model-l To all whom it may camera.-
Be it known that I, WARREN J. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Fence Posts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the in- Vention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and' -illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
which the figure is a side view of the post and attached parts.
The letters and numerals of reference designate the respective parts.
My purpose is to oonstruct the post and all other parts of iron bars but some of the partsas the post and cross-piece at the base-may be of wood.
The post A comprises two metallic bars, and their lower ends are turned and bolted to the cross-piece J. To the ends of this crosspiece are bolted the bars G, H, E, and F. To the outer ends of said bars G and I-I is bolted the diagonal braceC, and to the outer ends, on the opposite side of the post, is bolted the diagonal brace D. To the rear of this brace,
on the brace C, is attached the diagonal brace B by the bolt S, and the upper end is seoured by a bolt to the post near the top. Th'e stay I is used to secure the several runners l, which are fastened by the staples 2. The runners may be secured to the post by any of the well-known means for this purpose. The combination of the braoes 0,13, and D is such that the tension of the runners incline the post, causing a downward pressure on the outer end of the base by depressing the stay B, and thereby tending to hold the base parts in line. The base may be secured by being buried beneath the soil, by weights of stone, or by driving pins into the soil over the parts of the base.
I-Iaving fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, sp In a wire fence post, the combination 'of the Vertical post A, the cross-bar .I attached to the lower end of said post, the horizontal base bars G and H; and the bars E and F forming acute angles, and joined at their inner ends to said cross-bar to complete the base, the diagonal braoes O and D attached to the outer angles of said base, and the brace B attaohed to the post near the top and to the brace C near the junction of the former two, to hold both ends of the base down as the rcsult of the tension on the runners, substantially as described.
In testimony that I clairn the foregoing,r as my own I affix my signature inv presence of two witnesses.
NVARREN J. BAKER.
