Description

STATES ATENT Prien..
COMBINED RULER AND BLOTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of'Letters Patent'No. 545,027, dated August 20, 1895. Application filed January 16, 1895. Serial No. 535,073. (No model.)
To aZ/Z whom may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. WAITT, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of VPennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Rulers and Blotters, which improvement is fully set forth in the foliowin g speoitication and aecompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a combined ruler and blotter, whieh is formed of arulerhaving a blotter in the ruling edge and another blotter on its under side, and means for securing said blotter to the ruler.
Figure l represents a perspective View ofa :ruler and blotter embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents an end elevation thereof. Fig. 3 represents a transverse section on line :v Fig. 1. Fig. A represents a longitudinal seotion of a portion on line yy, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several ligures.
Referring to the drawings, A- designates a ruler having aslot B in one of its ruling-edges. Placed in said slot B is a piece C of blottingpaper or other suitable absorbent material, said piece being folded. On the under side of the ruler A is a strip of blotting-paper D, Whose ends are turned up over the ends of the ruler and secured thereto by staples E, one leg of each of which is driven through the turnedup end of the blotter D into the ruler A, and the other legV of each staple 'E is driven between the folds of the blotter C, thus wedging said folds against the wail of the slot B and securing said blotter in position. By withdrawing the staples E, the blotters may be removed when desired and fresh ones applied. Y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-'- l A ruler having a slot in one of its edges, a blotter therein, a blotter on the under side of the ruler, and staples securing both blotters vin position, substantially as described.
GEORGE L. WAITT.
