SECTIONAL PU LLEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,987, dated August 20, 1895. Application filed January 13, 1895- Serial No. 535,319- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAHLON B. LORAH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sectional Pulleys; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesam'e.
My invention has relation to sectional pulleys, and among the objects in view is to providea pulley of the described character embodying certain improvements upon the pulley show n, described, and claimed in United States Letters Patent granted to me under date of December 4, 1894, No. 530,282, whereby the pulley will be rendered stronger and splitting of the wood and separation of the parts prevented, all as will be presently apparent; and my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings,and pointed outin the appended claim.

1 indicates the pulley, which in its general construction is similar to the pulley represented in my before-mentioned Letters Patent, which pulley has the removable section 2.
3 indicates plates which are arranged upon each side of the arms at and 5 of the pulley,
which plates 3 have inwardly-projecting ribs or edges 6, adapted to take into the material of the arms. The plates 3 areprovided with perforations 7, which are adapted to align with each other and with perforations 7 in the showing my im-v arms, so as to receive headed bolts 8, the ends of Whichare threaded to receive nuts 9. When the nuts are screwed up tightly, the'plates will tightly clamp the arms to strengthen them and prevent splitting or breakage.
10 indicates bolts which are let into recesses 11 in the arm 12 and section 2, the heads of which bolts lie within recesses or sockets 13 in a plate 14, fitted within a recess 15 in the edge of the'arln 12. The opposite ends of the bolts are threaded to receive nuts 16,between which and the plate 17 (similar to plate 14) is interposed a plate 18 to serve the purpose of a washer. When the nuts are screwed up tightly, the section 2 will be firmly held in place and the arms strengthened, so as to prevent splitting or breakage. The section 2 may be removed when desired by unscrewing the nuts 16 and, then removing the bolts 10 for the purpose of allowing the pulley to be applied to or removed from a shaft. The said section 2 is similar in construction and application as the removable section described in my before-mentioned Letters Patent.
20 and 21 are the bearings or boxes for the shafting, adapted to be secured in position upon the arms by suitable bolts 23 and nuts 24 similarly to the bearings seen in my before-mentioned Letters Patent.
The advantages to be derived from the use of my invention will be readily apparent from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the drawings.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, in a pulley having arms and the section 2 provided with recesses upon opposite sides and adapted to removably fit within one of said arms, which arm is also provided with recesses on opposite sides, of the plate having sockets, the headed bolts lying within the recesses of section 2 and of the arm, the heads of the bolts being within said sockets, and nuts screwing upon the bolts,in the manner and'for the purpose specified. p In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
