DOOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part f Letters Patent No. 544,985, dated August 20, 1895. Application iilecl December 4, 1894.' Serial No. 5 30,773. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern: l
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. KELLY, of New Brunswick, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Doors, of which the following is a specification.
I will describe a door embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vertical section taken transversely through one of the walls of the masonry of a generator, the plane of the section being the center of a doorway and the door and a number of water-tubes being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the said wall, doorway, and door, some of the water-tubes being indicated in horizontal plan. The door is also shown in this gnre in dotted outline, but in a different position.
Similar letters of reference designate corre-` sponding parts in all figures.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates a' doorway or opening in the wall B. As shown, the vertical sides of the doorway incline toward each other in the direction of the inner side of the wall in which it is formed, s0
that the opening is made to taper transversely toward the tubes. This is an ordinary form and is advantageous because it affords great freedom of movement for a brush or nozzle with an opening comparatively small at the inner side of the wall B. There may be any number of these doorways or openings. In each doorway or opening A a facing-plate O may be arranged, and this may be made as a casting. It conforms to the shape of the openingor doorway and extends to the inner side of the wall in which such doorway is formed.
D designates a door hinged to the facingplate C on that side which is outermost, and secured by a locking device CZ when closed.
E designates a stopper for closing the opening in the facing-piece close to the inner side of the wall. As shown, this stopper consists of a bar capable of filling the space between the sides of inner side of the wall and connected by any desired number of arms c with the inner side of the door D, they being pivoted to the door or some appartenance of the latter. In the present instance these arms arev pivotally connected by bolts F with lugs formed upon the door.
It is obvious that when the door D is opened the stopper may be swung into any desired position out of the way, and that before the door is closed the stopper will be swung into the proper position to slide along one of the sides of the facing-piece, and that after it has been adjusted into this position the closing of the door will close the stopper.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a door for a door'- Way tapering from one side to the other, of a stopper pivotally connected to the door and serving to close the contracted portion of the doorway, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with a door D, for a doorway tapering from one side to the other, of a stopper E provided with arms e pivotally connected to the inner side of the door, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
