Description

' 7 (No Model.) I
H. J. VOGEL.
v01L CAN.
No. 544,756. PatentedAug. 20,1895.
INVENTOR 446 0 ATTORNEYS UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY J. VOGEL, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO WILLIAM voeEL & 3110s., or SAME PLACE.
OIL-CAN.
EEPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 544,756, dated August 20, 1895.-
Application filed April 13, 1895- Serial No. 545,575- (No model) To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY J. VOGEL, a resident of Brooklyn, Kings connty,State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Cans, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to oil-cans, and has for its object to produce an oil-can with a removable spout and drip-cup.
My invention consists in the construction hereinafter set forth and claimed.
My invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in
. which Figure l is a section of an oil-can embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional elevation of a modification.
In oil-cans as heretofore constructed the oil-cup, which is liable to become clogged with dirt, was so located with respect to the open mouth of the can that in cleaning the oil-cup much of the dirt was liable to be swept into the can, thus fouling the oil and causing a clogging of the nozzle. By my invention, however, by making the drip-cup removable, I obviate this difticulty, as the drip-cup with its contained oil and dirt can readily be removed from the can and cleaned at some place removed from the opening of the can.
In the drawings, A indicates the oil-can proper, which is provided with a neck a. which is spun into the form of a threaded collarthat is tosay, the neck is threaded both externally and internally-the spinning operation serving to bend or corrugate the metal of the neck, so that the external and internal screw-threads are counterparts of each other.
B is an oil-cup for catching the drippings from the spout. This oil-cup is provided with a threaded collar b, which screws over the neck a.
O is the nozzle, which is provided with a flange c and a screw-threaded sleeve 0, which screwthreaded sleeve is screwed into the neck of the oil-can.
In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the flange c is omitted and the oil-can is provided with a stop a to limit the entry of the collar c into the neck a. In this latter. construction the object desired to be attained is mainly the ability to remove either the spoutor the drip-cup from the can independently of the other.
WhatI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of a bodyA having a thin sheet metal neck a spun into the form of a threaded collar and having an external and an internal screw-thread thereon formed by bending the metal so that the internal and external screw-threads are counterparts of each other, a drip-cup B having a screwthreaded portion I) screwed upon the exter-. nal screw thread of the neck, and a spout or nozzle provided with a screw-threaded sleeve 0' screwed directly into the internal screw thread of the neck a, substantially as described.
