Be it known that I, EUGENE J. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Monroe, `in the county of Hart and State of Kentucky, have invented-a new and useful Fire- Dog, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in firedogs.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of fire-dogs, and to increase their durability, and to provide sim` ple means for replacing the inner leg when the latter is burned or broken.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of which is substantially rectangular, and is provided with a horizontal lpg supportingv bar and similar vertical legs 4.

The front portion of the fire-dog is bifurcated at the bottom to form legs, and is provided in the crotch formed by the same with a rectangular recess 5, receiving one end of the body portion 3, and the front portion extends vertically above the log-supporting bar to provide the usual form of fire-dog. The front portion of the tire-dog is provided at one side of the rectangular recess 5 with an inward-extending horizontally-disposed arm 6, having a perforation adapted to register with either one of a pair of perforations 7 of the body portion, whereby either end of the body portion 3 is secured in the recess of the front portion 2by a pin. y

The body portion 3 is secured to the arm 6 by a suitable fastening device 8, such as a pin or bolt, and when the inner leg of the body portion is burned or broken the body portion may be reversed to bring the front one of its l pair of legs to the back of the dog to replace the body portion 3, andv is located adjacent to each' perforation, and one of thelugs is in position to engage the notch of the arm 6 when either end of the body portion is fitted in the recess 5. It will be seen that the re-dog is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction,-

and that its durability is greatly increased by the reversible body portionwhich is provided with two legs.

Changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details'of construction may be resorted to without departing from the .principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

What I claim is- 1. A fire-dog, comprising the front portion having opposite legs. and provided in its crotch with a recess, and having a horizontal arm extending inward from one side of the recess, land provided with a perforation, a substantially rectangularvbody portion comprising a horizontal bar, and a pair of legs, said body portion being adapted to have eitherof its ends arranged in said recess and provided with a pairof. perforations for registering with that of said arm, and a fastening device passing through the arm and. the body portion, and detachably connecting the parts, Y
