P. ZINZEN.
DRILLING MACHINE. No. 544,495. Patented Aug. 13,1895.
NITED STATES FRIEDRICH ZINZEN, OF DI ITSSELDORF, GERMANY.
,srserrrcrmou forming part of Letters r Application filed June 30, 1894.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH ZINZEN, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Dusseldorf, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boring-Machines, with description as follows.
This invention relates to a boring machine, and more particularly to the means for radially adjusting a series of spindle-carriers upon the spindle-head.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the machine; Fig. 2, a cross-section on line mm, Fig. 1, and Fig. 3, a vertical section on line y y, Fig. 1
The letter A represents the frame of the machine, which is provided with the jointed boring-shafts B; that receive their rotary motion from the work-shaft in suitable manner. To the lower ends of the shafts B there are coupled the angular spindle-carriers f, having a horizontal and a vertical arm;
g is a ring which contains a circular groove n in its upper face, adapted for the reception ofscrews d, that serve to attach the spindlecarriers to the ring. The upright arms of the spindle-carriers receive the boring-spindles, while the flat horizontal arms are provided with long slots t, through which the screws d pass. In order to permit the spindles to be set nearer to or farther away from the center of the spindle-head, each of the slots t contains a horizontal screw (1', whichrpasses with its thread through the screw 01. The ring 9 is divided by a series of radial grooves n", while similar grooves n are formed in the lower face of the carriers f. If the grooves 71/ n DRILLING-MACHINE.

are brought into alignment and connected by a common feather s, an accurate radial guide for the boring-spindles is obtained. I
In order to set the. carriers to the exact diameter of the circle desired, each spindle-carrier is provided with a scale m, operating in conjunction with a circular mark q, that constitutes the pointer. The radial guidance of the spindle-carriers may be accomplished in different manner, if desired.
1 disclaim in a multiple drill the combination, with the drill-carrying spindles and flexible shafts for driving the same, of an open frame and inwardly-projecting bracket-supports for the drill-carrying spindles, adj ustably connected with said frame.
What I claim is--- 1. The combination of a series of angular grooved spindle carriers with a ring having a circular groove and a set of radial grooves and with screws 01 engaging the circular- FRIEDRICH ZINZEN.
