Be it known that I, WILLIAM FREDERICK WILLIAMS, gentleman, of 32 Shaftsbury Avenue, London, 7., England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dressing or other Fitted Traveling-Bags and Portman-v teaus, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in the following country-namely: Great Britaindated August 25, 1893, No. 16,050,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates more especially to what are known as top-fitted dressing or traveling bags having toilet-fittings which are inclosed by the hinged heads of the bag, and for the sake of convenience I will describe the invention as applied to such bags, although it is equally applicable to bags containing other fittings, and also to portmanteaus similarly fitted.

The object of the invention is to afford more convenient access to the fittings, concurrently with ac'cess'to the body of the bag, without removing the trays containing the fittings from the bag.

According to my invention the tray-carrier frames, or, as shown in the present instance, the trays themselves, are connected to the bagmouth frame by pairs of pivoted radius-links, so that they may be moved or swung in opposite directions, either separately or simul-- taneously, so as to entirely disclose the body of the bag, the trays moving with a parallel motion, so that they are always maintained in a horizontal position, and which, when in a closed position, abut at the longitudinal center line of the bag,

wherein I have represented a perspective View of one form of bag embodying my invention, the bag being represented .inan elementary manner and shown in the partly-open position to more clearly illustrate the action.

In the drawing, A A represent the heads, and B the body of the bag, the heads and body being shown only in outline.

It will be observed that the shoulders d, in

addition to forming stops for the purpose mentioned, form a support for the links which support the trays, so that a considerable portion of the weight of the trays is borne by the bag-mouth frame.

The frames of the heads A A themselves fulfill the function of the radius-links for the outer sides of the trays and by which the trays are constrained to move with a parallel motion. For this purpose each of said trays is connected at each end by a pivot c to the adjacent end member of the bag-head frame, the distance of said pivots c from the hinges a on which the bag-head frame works corresponding to the length of the radiuslink D. Thus it will be seen that during the movement'of one hundred and eightydegrees of the bag-heads from the open to the closed position or from the closed to the open position the trays will always be maintained in a horizontal position, and when the bag is open the trays will be maintained over the heads of the bag, leaving the mouth of the bag entirely unobstructed.

It is to be understood that although I have shown the radius-links pivoted directly to the trays, the links may be connected to tray-carrier frames from which the trays are removable.

Having now described my invention, what I claim is- In a top-fitted dressing or traveling bag, the combination, with the bag head frame, of two trays or tray carrier frames each of which is pivoted toward its inner edge to a pair of radius links jointed to the bag mouth frame and likewise pivoted toone of the-bag head heads and are moved in over the bag body by frames, so that the bag head frames will act the act of closing the bag heads, substantially conjointly with the radius links as parallelas specified.
