' J. T. BESWIOK. METHOD OF CONNECTING ENDS 015 ELECTRIC OONDUOTORS.
No. 543,919. Patented Aug. 6, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT. .OEFIOE.
JOHN T. BESWIOK, 0F BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO THE GENERAL INCANDES- CENT ARO LIGHT COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
METHOD OF CONNECTING ENDS OF ELECTRIC CONDUCTORS.
iPECIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,919, dated August 6, 1895. v
Application filed ruary 9, 1895. Serial No. 537,733. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatv I, JOHN'T. BESWICK, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of Oonnecting the Ends of Electric Conductors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a method of securing the contiguous ends of wires, rods, or similar objects forming part of an electrical circuit.
I will describe a method of securing the ends of wires, rods, or similar objects forming part of an electrical circuit, and which embodies my invention, and then point out the novel features in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a plan view of two wires or rods forming parts of an electrical circuits whose contiguous ends are connected according to a method embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a portion of an electrical circuit, and A represents another portion, it being desirable to connect the contiguous ends, as shown at the left of Fig. 1, to complete the circuit at this point. The portions A A may be formed of rods or wires.
B is a cross-bar. (Here shown as being rectangular in form and serving to .unite the two portions A A of the circuit.) To this end the bar 13 is provided with slotsb 1), within which are fitted the end portions of the rods or wires A A. The slots 1) 1), formed in the bar B, are each of greater depth than the corresponding dimension of the rod or wire A or A fitted into it, the pieces b of the bar B forming the side walls of the slot, projecting, consequently, beyond the edge of the rod or wire A A. When the rod or wire A A has thus been fitted into its corresponding slot, a portion or portions b of the projecting side walls I) of the slot will be forced down upon the exposed edge of the rod or wireA or A, forcing the latter to the bottom of the slot and curely in place.
firmly securing the rod or wire in place. Preferably, where these portions are bent 5o down'upon the exposed edge of the rod or wire, the latter will be notched, that the portions of the side walls forced down may enter these notches and secure the rods or wire more so- The portions which are forced down upon the rod or wire A or A may both be portions of the same side wall or they may be portions of both side walls.
This method of connecting contiguous ends of rods or wires forming portions of an electric circuit will be especially applicable to the securing together of the ends of coils forming the winding of the armature or fields of an electric dynamo or motor.
Having described my invention, whatI consider as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is
1. The method of connecting rods or wires forming portions of an electric circuit, consist- 7o ing in providing a rod or'wire with a slot, inserting within said slot one of said rods or wires forming a portion of the electric circuit and which is provided with one or more notches, and finally forcing into said notch or 7 5 notches a portion or portions of the rod or wire forming the sidewall or walls of the slot, substantially as specified.
2. The method of connecting rods or wires forming portions of an electric circuit, con- 8o sisting in providing a rod or Wire with slots, inserting within said slots the end portions of the rods'or wires forming portions of the electric circuit, and which are provided with one or more notches, and finally forcing into 8 5 said notch or notches a portion or portions of the rod or wire forming the side wall or walls of the slot, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of 0 two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN T. BESWIOK.
