Description

(No Model.)
W. H. BURDEN.
. I CURTAIN BLOWER FUR GRATES 0R STOVES. No. 542,302.
Patented July 9, 1895.
Jul/anion (UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. BURDEN, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
CURTAIN BLOWER FOR GRATES OR STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 542,302, dated July 9, 1895. Application filed November 1, 1894.. $erial No. 527,680, (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that 1, WILLIAM H. BURDEN, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of- Oleveland, county of Ouyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain Blowers for Fire- Grates or Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to blowers for grates,
side view of the slatted curtain, showing the method of attaching the slats to the supportin g-chains. Fig. 4 is a rear side view of a curtain composed of asbestos. Fig. 5 is a sectional view of a portion of the slatted curtain,
showing the manner of attaching the slats to the chain.
A represents a mantel and gratefront, which may be of any of the well-known patterns and styles, or instead of a mantel it may be an open stove-front, as my improvement is applicable to either.
ported on two or more chains D. The slatsare loosely attached by means of headed rivets d, inserted through the links of the chains. This allows the slats to adjust themselves laterally, and also avoids binding of the slats to I one another or to the links in case of heating m m are openings in the upper slots for the purpose of opening a draft to the upper part of the grate when the curtain is drawn down to the hearth, shutting off under-draft.
In Fig. at a different form of chain is shown as attached to a curtain made of asbestos fabric as a substitute for the slats.
F is a hood attached to the front Afor covering and concealing the roller B and curtain 0 when rolled up.
From the foregoing it will be seen that this improved curtain-front is very easily operated and may be adjusted at any height to close the grate-front opening and that it is very efficient for preventing the escape of dust, soot, or smokethe terrors of the cleanly housewife.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The herein described curtain blower for grates, consisting of chains D, slats O attached to said chains with rivets d loosely inserted through the links of the chain and permanently fixed in the slats, in combination with the spring roller B and adapted to operate as described.
