POCKET DEVICE SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 541,110, dated June 18, 1895. Application filed January 21,1895. Serial No. 535,624. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HIRAM MORTON MOORE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Devices, of

which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part thereof, in whichsimilar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

This invention relates to boxes for carriage in the pocket, and has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and readily constructed device of this character, which will embodya plurality of useful receptacles for small articles of common employment, and which will also embody a number of convenient auxillaries.

The invention consists in the novel construc-" walls B, the longitudinal walls being outwardly beveled at the top. The box is divided transversely slightly toward one side by a partition O forming of the main portion of the box a compartment B for the recep tion of matches; and the remainder of the box is digrided longitudinally by two partitions C O The partition 0 and the adjacent longitudinal wall B of the box form a compartment D, in which is inserted a pencil sharpener E of the usual construction, having the mouth thereof secured to the end wall B upon the edge of a circular aperture a in said wall. The longitudinal wall B is provided with a horizontal slot 1) therein, ranging parallel with the knife sharpener E to receive therethrough the shavings of the pencil sharpened. In the compartment orspace between the partition C and the longitudinal wall next adjacent thereto is inserted a filling or core F, preferably of felt, upon the top of which is secured a plate or roof 0 to inclose the same. In that portion of the end wall B which aligns with the felt core F,I form a plurality of apertures or perforations d to receive therethrough pins which are inserted into the felt core F. The partitions O, C form between the same a compartment D for the reception of postage stamps orthe like. Sliding longitudinally upon the top of the box are lids G, G the former of which is of such length as to wholly cover the match pocket or compartment B, while the lid G covers the remaining compartments, both of said lids therefore meeting at the transverse partition 0. Said lids are provided upon each side thereof with longitudinally ranging flanges e, which are inwardly bent at an acute angle to engage the beveled edges of the longitudinal walls B, and secure the lids G, G slidably thereon by a dovetailed connection or engagement. The outer edges of the lids are provided with similar flanges e to engage the end walls and limit the movement of the lids, said flanges being either straight or at an angle as desired.

Upon the bottom of the'box immediately beneath the base B, I secure a mirror H, having its reflective face upon the under surface thereof; and upon one side of the box beneath said base, I hinge a cover I provided with flanges 6 upon the free edge and upon the ends thereof, the said end flanges being pivoted in the end walls B by means of pivots f. Upon the interior or upper surface of the lid I I secure a paper, card-board, celluloid or other sheet J, adapted to receive memoranda or notes thereon.

The operation and advantages of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing description taken in connection-With the accompanying drawings, and it will be observed that not only do I provide a receptacle for a large number of small articles which are ordinarily carried loosely in the pockets and consequentlylosteventually,but furthermore, the device is extremely complete, compact,

A pocket device comprising a box, divided to form a match compartment of the main portion thereof,.and the remainder of the box being divided to form a plurality of compartments, a pencil sharpener secured in one of said compartments, and a pin cushion in another of the same, and the remaining compartment being adapted to receive small articles; the walls of the boxbeingapertured for the entrance of the pencil to, the sharpener and egress ot' the shavings and perforated in alignment with the pin cushion; and a lid or lids upon the top of the box, substantially as shown and described. 4

2. A pocket device comprising a box, divided transversely to form a match compartment of the main portion thereof, and the remainder of said box being divided longitudinally to form a plurality of smaller compartments, a pencil sharpener secured in one of the end compartments,a pin cushion secured in the opposite end compartments and the intervening compartment being adapted to receive small articles; the end Wall opposite. said pin cushion being perforated for the reception of pins and opposite the pencil sharpener apertured for the entrance of the pencil, and the side wall being longitudinally slotted for the egress of the pencil shavings; and

A pocket device comprising a box, divided transversely to form a match compartment, and a plurality of smaller compartments adapted to receive various articles, devices and appurtenances, flanged lids sliding upon the top'ot' the box from each end thereof and adapted to respectively close the match compartment and all the remaining compartments, a mirror secured upon the bottom of the box reflectingdownwardly, and a flanged lid or cover pivoted to the lower portion of the box, and adapted to cover said mirror, and having a sheet of material secured therein sharpener secured within said compartment" to the end wall, havingits mouth'aligning With said aperture, and the side wall of said compartment having a longitudinal slot therein for the egress of the pencil shavings, a cushion of felt secured within the opposite same, the end wall of said compartment being provided with a plurality of perforations or apertures for the passage of pins therethrough, and the intervening compartment.

being adapted to receive small articles, lids of different lengths having downwardly and'inwardly projecting side flanges to slidably dove-tail the same upon the top of the box, one of said lids being adapted to close the match compartment portion of the box, and the other lid being adapted to close the remaining portion of said box, flanges upon the outer edges of said lids to limit their inward movement, whereby the same meet at the transverse dividing partition, a mirror secured in the box beneath the base to reflect downwardly, and a lid or cover provided upon all of its free edges with flanges, the'end flanges being pivoted in the lower edge of the box, whereby said lid is hinged thereto, and a sheet. of material secured upon the interior faceof said lid and adapted to be written upon, substantially as shown and described.
