Be it known that LiEDMUND L. GLENN, a

citizen of theUnited States, residing in the. city and county--,i:of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement ineFastenings for Umbrellas or Parasols, which-improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of a fastening for um brellas' or parasols "comprising a jaw which is.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination of an umbrella runner, with a fastener comprising a jaw pivoted to said runner and adapted to bite an umbrella stick, a sleeve below the runner adapted to move on the stick and abar rigidly connected with the sleeve, lnovably connected with the runner and operatively connected with the jaw, substantially as described.

2. The combination of an umbrella runner with a jaw pivoted to said runner and adapted to bite an umbrella stick a sleeve below the runner adapted to move on the stick and a shouldered bar rigidly connected with the sleeve, passing freely through an eye in the jaw and connected with a collar which is movably fitted on the runner, substantially as described.

with a fastener comprising a jaw pivoted to said runner and adapted to bite an umbrella stick, a sleeve below said runner adapted to move on the stick, a bar rigidly connected with the sleeve, movably connected with the 20 runner and operatively connected with the jaw, and a sheath which incloses the parts of the fastener and is attached to the sleeve and collar thereof, substantially as described.
