Patented May 1.4, 1.895.
UNITED STATES PATENT I OFFICE.
ERASTUS W. JEWETT AND HENRY D. SARGENT, OF SWANTON, VERMONT; SAID SARGENT ASSIGNOR TO SAID JEWETT.
SUSPENDER-BUCKLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 539,133, dated May 14, 1895.
Application filed January 25,1895. Serial No. 536, 56- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ERASTUS W. J EWETT and HENRY D. SARGENT, citizens of the United States, residing at Swanton, in the county of Franklin and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Buckles; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in buckles, and refers specially to a suspender buckle adapted particularly for use upon overall suspenders.
The object of our invention is a provision of a suspender buckle which will be of the simplest and cheapest construction, which will permit of quick and 'easy adjustment of the suspender as circumstances require and which will be useful and practical.
The invention consists of a suspender buckle of the character named of novel construction as substantially described and claimed herein.
Figure l is a front view of our buckle with the webbing applied, and Fig. 2 is a similar view of the buckle detached.
Our improved buckle is preferably made of wire bent first to form the loop or eye A for attaching to the button, thevertically disposed arm B, the horizontal inward extending arms 0 and the vertical terminals formed with barbs or points D arranged at an incline to the body of the buckle and adapted to engage the webbing E secured to the bar or loop F which embraces the arms B and secures said arms from springing apart and said arms are formed each with a kerf or notch G in which the loop or bar F fits and holds the arms rigid.
From this construction it will be seen that the buckle is applied directly to the button on the overalls and the Webbing is properly secured thereto and may be easily adjusted when desired.
We claim A suspender buckle formed of a single piece of material and comprising the eye or loop, the vertical flaring arms having the inward extending horizontal terminals having the barbs inclined outward and further provided with the kerfs or notches and the bar or 100p fitting in said notches, to receive the webbing and prevent spreading of the said arms.
In testimony whereof We affix our signa tures in presence of two witnesses.
ERASTUS W. JEWETT. HENRY D. SARGENT.
