(To aZZ whom it may concern.- Be it known that I, BERNICE J. Novas, of Boston, county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Ice-Cream Spoons, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on a the drawings representing like parts. I I This invention relates to ice-cream spoons, being especially designed for serving icecream at soda fountains, and for analogous purposes, the object being to provide the spoon with a simple, inexpensive, and easily operated device for removing the ice-cream from r 5 thebowl of the spoon. V

The invention consists in the combination with the bowl and its handle, of a bail-shaped removing device or cleaner, shaped to correspond to the shape of the bowl, and pivotally connected at opposite sides of and working within said bowl, and means arranged on or in connection with the handle for operating said bail-shaped removing device or cleaner to remove the ice-cream from the bowl.

The means herein shown for operating the removing device or cleaner, consists of a spirally formed hub or portion, on a rod or bar formed integrally with or connected to the pivoted bail-shaped cleaner, which latter turns 0 on an axis in alignment with the handle, and a spring-pressed finger piece having a hole or passage through it, which receives said spirally formed hub or portion, working upon and thereby turning said hub or portion, as the 3 5 finger piece is moved in either direction.

The operation of the device is as follows: The bowl of the spoon having been filled with ice-cream or any other material, the operator, by pressing the finger piece d against the tension of thespring d slides the block (1' along in its guideway or bearing, and during such movement said block works upon the spirally formed hub or end piece a, turning it, and in turn correspondingly turning the bailshaped removing device or cleaner within the bowl, which acts to remove the ice-cream which may adhere thereto. The spring 01 acts to restore the parts to their normal position.

By making the bail-shaped removing device of wire, as shown, or any equivalent therefor, a thin blade-like device is provided which passes around the body of the material contained in the bowl, detaching it from the bowl to which it adheres; and as said wire presents but a small surface, little or no material will adhere to it.

I desire it to be understood that the bail shaped cleaner, may be of any other shape, so as to correspond to and work within a bowl of any other shape.

I claim- The bowl 0., and handle I], combined with the bail-shaped removing deviceor cleaner,

pivotally connected with and working within said bowl on an axis in alignment with the handle the rod or bar a and spirally formed hub or end piece 0 thereon, the finger piece d, block 61, having a hole through it which receives and works upon said spirally formed hub or end piece, and the spring d acting upon said block, substantially as described.
