DRAFT-TUBE FOR SIPHON-BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 538,194, dated April 23, 1895.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT GARRARD, a subject of the Queen ofiGreat Britain, residing at Maybury Heath, Woking, London, in the county of Surrey, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Draft-Tubes for Siphon-Bottles, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in Great Britain, No. 7,524, bearing date April 30, 1891, and for which I have obtained a patent in France, No. 213,419, bearing date May 12, 1891,) of which the following is a specification.
Draft tubes ordinarily employed for siphon bottles which are charged with aerated liquids form a direct channel from the outlet valve in the head of the siphon bottle to the bottom of the bottle. Thus when the valve is driven from its seating the discharge of liquid takes place almost instantaneously and with such force usually that much of the liquid escapes from the glass held to receive it. This inconvenience is the greater in the case of drinks which from the nature of their ingredients are liable to froth more than ordinary aerated Waters, the loss,too, being of serious moment in the case of expensive sparkling wines filled into siphon bottles.
The object of my invention is to obstruct the passage of the liquid in its course from the bottom of the siphon bottle to the point at which the closing valve is situated. For this purpose I make the draft tube as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a part sectional view of myimeither formed into cup shape as shown at B or is fitted with a metallic or other cup to form the flanged enlargement required for surrounding the valve and for fixing the tube within the siphon top in the usual and well known manner. By this means the length of the channel from the valve to the bottom of the siphon bottle is greatly increased and departs from the usual direct course, achieving the required result of preventing a too rapid discharge no matter how suddenly the valve may be opened.
I have shown the tube twisted spirally but it is obvious that my object of causing the required resistance to restrict the flow of liquid may be obtained by twisting the tube in any other way which will restrict the flow of liquid therethrough.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a siphon bottle of a coiled or'twisted draft tube substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
