Description
.(No MOdQL) DENTAL PALLET.
No. 538,110. Patented Apr. 23, 1895.
NITED STATES JOHN I-IELLINGS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DENTAL PALLET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 538,110, dated April 23, 1895.
Application filed August 8,1894. Serial No. 519,718. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN HELLINGS, a citi zen of the United States, residing in the city.
and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dental Pallets, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a dental pallet which may be readily supported on the hand and carry the filling and drying materials, it being also adapted to sustain a lamp for heating the filling material, thus providing a convenient device for the'dentists purpose.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a dental pallet embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section on line on, to, Fig. 1. Fig. 3'represents a transverse section on line y, y, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings: A designates a cup to which is attached the ring B which latter may be placed on the thumb of the dentist or operator while the cup rests on the adjacent portion of the hand as shown in Fig. 1. Connected with the sides of the cup are the pouch O and the pocket D, the latter receiving-the body Eof a spirit lamp F, it being noticed that the cup, ring, pouch and pocket are formed integral of soft rubber. It will be seen that the cup is adapted to contain filling material, and the pouch to contain drying material, said materials being convenient of access at the mouths of the respective parts. The lamp is also located convenient to the cup, and all of the parts may be supported on the hand while the fingers thereof are left free for assisting in an operation or other purpose. It will also be seen that the upper wall of the cup projects or overhangs inwardly forming a guard which prevents the contents of the cup from falling out of the same, especially when the hand changes its positions or the pallet becomes vertical during such changes accidentally or purposely. A portion of the said wall near the ring 0 is raised forming the lip G and deepening the cavity or space H of the cup below said lip so that the plugger or implement may be more readily introduced into the cup and reach the contents of the same in said space, the lip increasing said space H so that a greater quantity of filling material may gather therein, especially when the cup assumes more orless of a vertical position. The pouch O has a mouth J from which the drying material may be withdrawn, said mouth normally closing so that loss of the material is prevented during the manipulation of the pallet.
The pocket D holds the body of the lamp in a firm yet yielding manner so that displacement and breakage of the same is prevented, and said body may be turned therein soas to adjust the position of the wick tube as desired, and said body may be removed from the pocket by properly distending the latter, especially the walls K thereof.
When it is not desired to construct the parts enumerated of soft rubber, other suitable material may be employed and said parts may be secured to each other in any desired manner, but flexible or elastic material is preferred owing to its soft and yielding nature, its non-liability to breakage, its ease of manipulation, its readiness of setting on the hand without severity and with lightness, and its general adaptability and inexpensiveness.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A dental pallet having a cup with an inturned Wall and a supporting ring, said wall forming a guard at the top of the cup, substantially as described.
2. A dental pallet consisting of a cup, a pouch, a lamp pocket, and a supporting ring, said cup, pouch, pocket and ring being formed of soft rubber, and the parts combined substantially as described.
3. A dental pallet having a cup provided with a supporting ring, and a lamp pocket with side and end walls adapted to embrace the body of a lamp supported thereon, substantially as described.
4. A dental pallet consisting of a cup having a holding ring connected therewith, a pouch and a lamp pocket connected with said cup, said pocket having elastic sides and ends, and said pouch having a self-closing month, said parts being combined substantially as described.
5. A dental pallet-having a cup with a pouch integral therewith, and provided with a holding ring, substantially as described.
JOHN HELLINGS.
