W. H. BAIR 8: D. R. MANN.
BARREL TRUCK.
No. 537,625. Patent e-dApr.16,-1895.
STATES ATENT OFFIC WILLIAM H. BAIR AND DJLMA a. MANN, or BAXTER, IOWA.
BARREL-TRUCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,625, dated April 16, 1895.
Application filed September 1, 1894, serial No, 521,902- (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM H. BAIR and DJLMA R. MANN, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Baxter, in the county of Jasper and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Barrel-Truck, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple, cheap and durable truck that maybe employed to raise barrels, &c., and provided with wheels whereby they may be elevated to any desirable distance and moved over afloor and to provide such a truck with a detachable handle and means whereby the incline of the top of the truck may be readily, easily and accurately adjusted so that the device may be used to place barrels and the like thereon when the contents are being withdrawn and the incline of the barrel be adj usted, to accelerate or retard the flow therefrom.
Our invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of the device as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in our claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete device, showing the handle in position. Fig. 2 isa side elevation of the truck in position to support a barrel.
Referring to the accompanying drawings. the reference letter A is used to indicate the side pieces of the frame which are provided with rounded shoulders A on their rear lower ends for purposes hereinafter explained.
A are the end pieces preferably hollowed in their top surfaces to receive a barrel.
B indicates wheels mounted on the shaft 13 which has its hearings in said side pieces.
0 indicates a support pivotally mounted at one end to said shaft and held in place thereon by the collars G On its other end is formed a downwardly extending foot 0 C are plates secured to the sides of said foot and C are openings formed in the foot from its front end beneath the plates. An opening 0 is formed in the plates to admit a bolt whereby the handle, hereinafter described, may be connected therewith. I
D indicates a bridle fixed "to the forward cross piece of the frame with its end overlaping at the lower end two parallel plates adapted to enter the openings 0 and a bore adapted to admit the bolt 0 so that the handle may be readily detached.
I-I indicates a collar slidingly mounted on the handle and having pivoted therein a hook H adapted to engage the chine of a barrel, so that a pull upon the handle when the truck is in an upright position will turn the barrel on its side on top of the truck.
J indicates lugs fixed to the top of the rear cross piece and adapted to be forced under the end of a 'barrel and to hold the barrel in position on the truck.
In practical use the lugs are forced under a barrel standing on its end, the hook H placed in engagement with the upper edge or chine thereof and the rounded shoulders A used as the fulcrum by which the barrel is placed in a horizontal position on top of the truck. When moved to its proper position, the bandle is detached by removing the bolt and the barrel is secured at any desirable incline by first placing it in position then tightening the thumb screw D Having thus described our invention, what we claim as'new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States therefor, is
1. The combination, of a truck mounted on wheels and having curved side pieces as set forth, of a foot pivoted to the axle of the truck and extended to the forward end thereof, a bridle attached to the end of the truck and projecting downwardly to overlap the end of the said foot, a set screw passed through the slot in the bridle and into the foot for the purposes stated, and a handle detachably connected with the truck, for the purposes stated.
2. The combination with a barrel truck mounted on wheels, of a foot pivotally IOO mounted on the axle of the truck and extended below the forward end thereof, a bridle fixed to the truck and overlapping said foot, a bolt fixed to the foot and extended through the slot in the bridle, a thumb nut on the end of said bolt, a handle having ahook slidingly mounted thereon, two plates projecting outwardly beyond the end of the handle and a bolt adapted to be passed through the said plates and the foot for the purposes stated.
