.l'eit known that I, WILLIAM A.`DEMMoN,a v'cltizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of j Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Transformation Scenes, t of which the following is a specification refer'- i ence being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to improvements in transformation scenes for use in theaters or x other places of amusement, and also'as a toy or advertising medium.

It consists of the .novel arrangement and combination of parts, whereby dierent charj: acters, landscapes or other paintings near opposite ends of a canvas may be brought into view of the audience by simply manipu- 1. lating a set of rollers in the manner hereiny after described.

In the drawings which illustrate my invenj tion, Figure 1 represents the character located j near the upper end of the canvas.

Fig. 2 shows the vertically operating rollers raised to a point about midway between the upper and lower portions of the frame, and represents the character located near the upper end of the canvas disappearingbetween said rollers while the character located near the lower end of the canvas is makingits appear- Fig. `3 is a ver- In the construction of my invention I employ a rectangular frame 1, the vertical sides of which are provided upon their inner faces with vertical grooves 2, that extend almost the entire length of said sides. This rectangular frame is reinforced at each corner by means of blocks 3, in which are j ournaled rollers 4, 5, for the purpose hereinafter described.`

Grepresents a pair of rollers journaled one above the other in movable blocks 7. Said blocks are provided upon their outer vertical sides with tongues 8, which operate in grooves 2, the same acting as a guide to the blocks when they are moved up or down with the rollers 6.

For convenience in operating blocks 6, I connect them together with a cross-har), which is provided at its upper and lower sides, midway between the movable blocks, with staples 10, to which are secured the opposite ends of a cable 11.

12, and 13 represent pulleys located at the upper and lower ends of the rectangular frame, which act as guides for the cable 11, and also keep the lower portion of same within easy reach of the operator upon the door.

14 represents the canvas or other suitable material, upon which are drawn the desired pictures, (irc. The upper end of this canvas is secured tothe uppercross piece of the rectangular frame. Its free end is'then brought down between rollers 6, back up over'roller 4, down around roller 5, up between rollers 6, and then down to the lower cross piece of the rectangular frame, to which it is secured'. By this arrangementof the rollers and canvas one character is being brought into View from between rollers 6, as fast as the other disappears between said rollers, by simply raising or lowering the same. While I have shown this arranged to be operated from the floor, I do not wish to confine myself to this specific mode of operation, as cable 1l, may be run over suitably arranged pulleys, to the flies of the theater, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
