AIA?
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. i
POWERS WIOKEs, OF ALMONT, AssIGNOR OF ONE-HALE To CHARLES L. REXEORD, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
WEATHER-STRIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,558, dated March 26, 1895.
Application tiled' tammy 24, 1895. serial No. 536.060. oro man.)
To all whom/ z? may concern,.-
Beit known that I, POWERS WIOKES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Almont, in the county of Lapeer and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in W'eather-Strips; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such asV will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of'this specilication.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in attachments for window frames and sashes, for the purpose of keeping out cold, dust and water, and the object of the invention is to produce a weather strip, which may be secured to the parting strip of the frame having beads which are designed to slide in recesses in the faces of the sasllil, one cap or strip beingprovided for each sas To these ends and to such others as the in-y vention may pertain, the same consists further in the novel construction, combinationv and adaptation of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters apart ofy of reference marked thereon, form this specification and in which Figurelis a perspective View of the sash With the cap sliding in a groove thereof. Fig. 2, is a cross section through the parting strip, window frame and sash.
or grooves D.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawingsby letter, A designates the check rail of a window Dthe parting strip,
between the upper and lower sash. The upper and lower sashes are grooved out, as seen at D and E is a weather strip, made of any suitable material, and is secured to the parting strip by any suitable means, preferably by screws d, and the two laterally extending wings D2 are designed to slide in the recesses ,It will thus be seen that a window frame and the sashes of a window equipped with my improved weather strip, will effectually keep .out the cold, water and dust, and the cap or strip secured to the parting strip, will also serve as a guide, while the sashes are being raised or lowered.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a weather strip E, of any suitable material, recesses on one side and having the beads D', the said recessed portion designed to be placed over and secured to a parting strip of a window frame, the window rails being grooved or recessed, and adapted to receive the said beads `and to slide thereon, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
POWERS WICKES.
