URIAH A. CLEVELAND, OF ALBERT LEA, MINNESOTA.
CU LTIVATOR TTACH M ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 536,130, dated vMarch 19, 1895.
Application filed February 26| 1894. VSerial No. 501,560. (No model.) i
y by the shovels.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a cultivator with my attachment in place. Fig. 2 is an end View thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan' view thereof.
Referring to the figures on the drawings: 1 indicates the curved shanks of a pair of cultivator shovels. 2 indicates a yoke adj ustably secured thereto by suitable means, as for eX- ample, hooks 3, having screw bolt ends 4, and nuts 5.
6 indicates the cultivator blade or leveler which consists preferably of a serrated steel plate preferably detachably secured to the curved spring supports 7. These supports are adjustably secured to the said yoke, as by clamping plates 8 secured at one end by the bolt ends of the hooks 3 and atrthe other by screw bolts 9. j .f
The nuts v being screwed upon the ends serve to simultaneously clamp the clamping plates to the yoke to sustain the' spring supports, and to clamp the yoke and the connected parts to the Shanks. The teeth of the blade are pointed rearwardly as illustrated.
By means of the peculiar mechanism de- Y scribed, I can accomplish a great variety of adjustments of the leveler to suit varying conditions. f
.It will be observed that` byreason ofthe resiliency of the spring supports the leveler is yieldingly supported, and is adjustable vertically without changingits degree of inclination by means of the clamping plates-which may be loosened for the purpose of such vertical adjustment and may then be clamped to fix the same. It will also be observed that. by reason of the curved contour of the shanks the yoke may be vertically adjusted' thereon to vertically adjust the leveler, and at the same time to change its rearward inclination, and, by reason of the difference in the radius of the curved Shanks, such vertical adjustment of the yoke likewise changes the endwise inclination of the leveler.
I do not desire to limit myself to the details of construction herein shown and described, but reserve the right to modify or change the same within the scope of my invention. Y Y
1. -The combination with a pair of curved cultivator shanks of different radius, of mechanism adj ustably securinga yielding leveler thereto, substantially as specified.
2. The combination withthe shanks of a cultivator, and the leveler, of intermediate mechanism for accomplishing the vertical adj ustment of the leveler and for adjusting the .endwise inclination of the leveler with respect to the ground and its rearward inclination simultaneously, substantially as specified. Y
3. The combination with a pair of cultivator Shanks curved in different degrees, of a yoke adjustable thereon, and a leveler adjustably secured to the yoke whereby the leveler Ymay loe vertically adjusted without changing' the degree of its inclination, or whereby it adjusted, or the degree of its endwise inclina-` tion adjusted at. will, substantially as specified.
In testimony of all which I have hereunto subscribed my name.
