IMPROVEMENT IN QUARTZ-CRUSHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,552, dated April 7, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, S. F. AMBLER, of Tuolumne county, California, have invented, made, and applied to use certain new and useful improvements in the Construction and Operation of Mortar Boxes or Beds for Float Quartz-Batteries; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure l is a front sectional view of a twostamp float quartz-battery Fig. 2, an end view of the same.
In the drawings like parts of the invention are designated by the same letters of reference.
The nature of my invention consists in attaching to the mortar box or bed A of a float quartz-battery a strip or flange, c, which strip or flange 0 extends along the inside of the discharging-edge of the box or bed A, thus effectually preventing the stamps in their operation from forcing out of the box or bed A the course material, and causing, as it were, a natural overflow of the pulverized material.
The screen ordinaril employed in conjunction with the mortarbox or bed does not fully separate the pulverized quartz, and a screen sufficiently fine for this purpose cannot be used, as the same is apt to be choked up or broken.
By the employment of the strip or flange 0. as shown, an advantage of great moment is secured in that a means for facilitating the discharge of the finer particles is afforded as the same rise from the bottom of the box A and pass off with the water over this strip or flange. Thus the use of a screen is entirely dispensed with, while agreat saving of labor and time is accomplished.

The strip or flange 0, attached to the mortarbox A of a float quartz-battery, substantially as shown, for the purposes set forth.
