BRlDLE-BLIND.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 534,836, dated February 26, 1895.

To a whom it may concern:

Be it known that- I, ARTHUR E. LOVELESS,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Harriman, in the county of Roane and State of Tennessee,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blinds for Bridles; and I do declare the following tobe a full, clear,

and 'exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which IO it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. My invention has reference to a removable blind for bridles. Heretofore these blinds have been provided with a metallic flange adapted to be inserted, and fastened by screws and other devices, in the cheek strap of the bridle.

It is the purpose of my invention to make such a fastening not only more simple, cheap and effective, but also easier tooperate in the act of attaching and removing. 2 5 To this end my invention consists in the peculiar features and combinations of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, represents a side view of a blind secured to the cheek strap by my improved means, parts being cut away to disclose the mechanism within; Fig. 2, a transverse section through 22 of the preceding figure, and Fig. 3, views 3 5 of details.

The reference letterarepresents the cheek strap of ordinary construction, to which is attached the blind b. This blind in the present instance consists of leather covered sheet metal 0. Stamped, cut or otherwise formed integral with the blind is a pair of flanges d projecting from the left side of the blind and adapted to enter the interior of the cheek strap. These flanges are located near the top 45 and bottom of the blind and are formed to project obliquely in relation to the top and bottom edges thereof. Each is provided with open slots 6 forming the prongs f adapted to pass astride binding screws gin the cheek 5o strap, an elongated opening it being made in the edge of the cheek strap for their reception. The slot e extends in a direction parallel with the flanges and hence obliquely in relation to the upper and lower edges of the blind. This provision is made in order to more effectively 5 5 hold the blind in place in case either or both of the binding screws should become jarred loose. Between the interior strap 2' and the inner side j'of the cheek strap is located an elongated bar or nut provided with threaded holes is for the reception of the binding screws 9. Holes Zare left in the cheek strap opposite these screws in order to allow access to them in fastening and unfastening the screws. The flanges d are bent laterally in '65 relation to the vertical sides of the blind cin order to allow the blind to flare outwardly away from the horses eye when attached to the cheek strap.

It is apparent from the foregoing descrip- 70 tion that when the screws gare loosened, the oblique disposition of the open slots e will prevent the blind from dropping downward and off, while at the same time it can be detached from the cheek strap by pulling upon it laterally. In attaching it again the operator has only to pass the flanges d through the openings h which will cause the prongs f to pass astride the screws. An instrument can now be inserted through the holes Z and the screws tightened and the blind held, securely in place.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 8 5 In a removable blind the combination with a hollow cheek-strap, set-screws within the strap, the latter being provided with screwholes coincident with the screws, a blind provided with laterally and downwardly projecting prongs adapted to pass astride the screw shanks, and to be held by the screws, sub stantially as described.
