Description
(No ModeL) A. L. SONN.
ELECTRICAL BRUSH.
No. 534,528. Patented Feb. 19, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT GEEICE.
ANSON L. SONN, OF LANSINGBURG, NEW YORK.
ELECTRICAL BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 534,528, dated February 19, 1 895.
Application iiled October 15,1894. Serial No. 525,867. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ANSON L. SONN, of the village of Lansingbu1'g,co11ntyof Rensselaer,
and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Electrical Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in electrical brushes, and more particularly to hair brushes, and these improvements have for their obj ect the placing of the bristles and part of the brush handle in circuit, with some of the features of the mechanism as an improvement upon the bath or body brush described and shown in an application for Letters Patent made by me and known as Serial No. 523,897, which is now pending.
The application 0f an electrical current to the scalpis serviceable and brings relief to the head and brain of persons over-Worked and mentally wearied. Its application also becomes useful in neuralgia aecting the head and facial muscles.
In applying my invention` the brush is made with a wooden body-part and handle, with the bristles held in recessed punctures made in a metallic plate with which latter one pole of the battery connects by means of a circuit wire passing through thewooden handle, while the other pole of the battery connects with a metallic tube-form casing inclosing the handle by a circuit wire, so that when the wires are connected with the battery and the brush is grasped by the hand and applied to the head or face, the body of the operator completes the circuit between the grasp of the brush and the part to which the brush, is applied.
Accompanying this specification to form a part of it there is one plate of drawings containing three figures illustrating the application of my invention, with the same designation of parts by letters of reference used in all of them. A
Of the illustrations Figure 1 is a central vertical longitudinal section of a brush containing my invention. Fig. 2 is a' section taken through the handle on the line 0c', 0c', Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the metallic plate recessed for the reception of the bristles.
The several parts of the brush thus illustrated are designated by letters of reference and the function of the parts is described as follows:
The letter B designates the brush; b2, its body-part, and H its handle; M, the metallic plate which has conntersunk therein, sinks, into which the inner end of the bristles are secured.
The letter B2 designates the bristles.
The handle H is -grooved out at g for the passage of one of the circuit wires, and is recessed in revolution at h2.
vThe letter N designates a metallic tubeform plate encircling that part of the handle so recessed, with the plate in conducting contact with the wire in the groove g.
The letter C designates a wooden cap which is screwed on to the outer end of the handle, and this cap has a passage-way for the circuit wires Which, where passing through the cap are insulated, one of them, the wire W',`
passing around the end of the handle where inclosed by the cap to enter the groove g, and the other circuit wire W2, passing centrally through the handle to pass out from the brush body at O, to connect with the bristleplate M, and then re-enter the body-part at O2, to run along'in contact with the inner surface of the plate N.
The letter D designates a battery which may be of any well known kind that will develop a moderate 'current that is suitable for such uses.
l While I have shown the metallic plate N, as countersunk to receive the inner ends of the bunched bristles, it may be punctured for the passage of the bristles if desired. As thus made and arranged a very useful application of an electrical current is obtained and one that is adapted for various purposes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an electricalhair brush the combination with a wooden body-part, of a metallic plate constructed to receive the inner ends of the bristles; a handle of Wood that is grooved for the passage of one of the circuit wires, and has a central passage for the other circuit w.ire, said handle being provided with a Wooden cap having an insulated passage for both wires; and a metallic tube-form covering for the handle where `between the body and cap, with the tube-form metallic plate in circuit with the Wire Within the handle groove, and the other wire in circuit connection with the metallic plate containing the bristles, and with the wires connected to the opposite poles of a battery, substantially in the manner as and fortlle purposes set forth.
Signed at Troy, New York, this 12th day of October, 1894, and in the presence of the two Witnesses whose naines are hereto written.
ANSON L. SONN.
Witnesses:
W. E. HAGAN, CHARLES S. BRINTNALL.
