Description

(No Model.) H WAGNER INSECT EXTERMINATO-R.
Patented Feb. 12, 1395;
. UNITED "STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY WAGNER, OF OULLMAN, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR TO W. J. WALSH,
' T. I. HUMPHREY, AND M.'T. SWIFT.
lNSECT-EXTERMINATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 533,933, dated February 12, 1895. Application filed fifly 23,1894. SerialNo. 518,362- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY WAGNER,acitizen of theUnited States, residing at Cullman,
in the county of Oullman and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insect-Exterminators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in insect exterminators,
of that class embodying an ash-box or furnace and a steam chamber with a spout or nozzle through which thesteam is directed upon the insects or into crevices in which they are located.
It has for its objects among others to provide a simple and cheap improved device of thischaractcr by the use of which better re sults may be obtained and by means of which the steam may bedirected in any and all directions. The steam generator has a conductor which is tapered and formed in jtwo parts detachably connected so that by the use of either the steam may be directed horizontally or vertically as may be desired. Lem- Y ploy a flexible tube on this discharge conductor or nozzle so that the steam may be con- .veyed into places which could not otherwise be reached. The steam chamber is a double cylinder with which the generator is connected. This double cylinder is connected with the base or furnace by means of loops or rings on the one part engaging pins or projections on' the other so that they may be readily separated when occasion may require.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claim.
The invention in the present instance resides in the peculiar combinations, and the construction, arrangement and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described,
shown in the drawings and then pointed out in the claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the particularly accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, forma part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a central section through my improved insect exterminator. Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof. Fig. 3 is a view of the removable portion of the conductor.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the drawings A designates the base of the device which constitutes the ash-box or furnace adapted forthe burning ofcharcoal, or by the insertion of a lamp B fitted for the burning of oil. This lamp is removably supported within the base portion.

As the. steam chamber isplaced in position over the base these rings are engaged over the pins or projections and thus the twowill be securely yet detachably held together.
The steam chamber D is a double cylinder closed at the top and bottom and having a central circular passage therethrough as shown at E and F is a funnel or opening through which the liquid is introduced into the space between the two cylinders. This space cominunicates at the top with the generator F at- I manipulated.

Kis a detachable conductor designed to be removably fitted over the end of the tapered conductor and having a substantially right* angled portion K so that when the said portion K is upon the conductor the part K may be turned so as to direct the steam upward or inder having a depending annular flange at downward or to either side at any desired the lower part thereof with projections enanglegaging said rings and having a central pas- L is the chimney which is detachably fitted sage anda filling aperture, a generator on the 20 5 within the central passage of the steam ohamoutside of the outer cylinder communicating 13 1 with thespace between the two cylinders and The operation will be readily understood provided with atapered'conduetor and a flexifrom the foregoing description when taken in ble pipe with a nozzle, substantially as and connection with the annexed drawings and a for the purpose described. 5 10 further detailed description thereof is not In testimony whereof I have. signed this deemed necessary. specification in the presence of two subscrib- "What I claim as new ising witnesses.
