SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 533,901, dated February 12, 1895.
Application filed March '1, 1894. semi No. 502,707. (No model.)
ports or stays to retain vines, plants, shrubbery and trees in the required position.
The purpose of the invention is to devise a simple, cheap, and easily constructed support, which is adapted to be used in connection with and be adjusted upona trellis bar, prop or stay, diamond shaped in cross section, and be held thereto by a binding action.
The improvement consists of a support having an arm, either straight or curved, to en-.
gage with the tree, plant or vine, and having .an angular loop to slide and bind upon a rod,
of wire, which is bent into the required, form.
The arm may be straight, curved, or of any required contour, to meet the wants of the trade. This support is adapted to slide upon abar 4., which is diamond shaped in cross section, as clearly shown. By this construction of bar relatively thin edges are provided at diametrically opposite points, for the angular loop 3 to bite into when pressure is brought to bear on the arm 2. The support is adjustable opposite points on the thin edges of the bar 4.
The pressure on the arm 2, will serve to hold the support in the located position.
In its simplestvform the support will be constructed of wire, which will be cut by machin ery into the required length, and bent in the desired form, the bight of the wire forming the eye or loop to receive the wire. The arm is formed by bringing the ends of the wire together, which ends are secured and prevented from spreading by a clip 5, which is clinched around the arm close to the head.
In some forms of construction the support may be stamped from sheet metal, but as this results in loss of material, as well as requiring expensive machinery, it is found expedient to construct the device solely of wire, as is most clearly shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus .described the invention, what is claimed as new is- I The combination with a bar substantially diamond shaped in cross-section, of a bent supporting rod comprising a loop having an angle to engage one of the acute angles of the bar and parallel arms arranged closely together to form a hook and held in proximity by a clip surrounding the arms below the loop, substantially as and for the purposes set,
forth. In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
