f C Z BEF' YE, T @n UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NICHOLAS HALL, OF NEW MARKET, MARYLAND.
IMPROVED BROOM-HEAD.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, NICHOLAS HALL, of New Market, in the county of Frederick and State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Machine for a Broom-Head, for the purpose ot' making brooms in a short time without the use of twine or wire; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same,.reference being had to the anneXed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective View, and Figs. 2 and 3 are sections.
The socket A, Figs. l and 3, is to contain the handle, which is fastened by means of a screw passing through the hole B. C, Figs. 1 and 3, is a round rod attached to this socket, andjoining the quadrangular band D, Fig. l, at the point E. F, Fig. l, is another band of the same size as D. These bands are joined by the hinge G, Fig. l.
At the end of the band F are the two hooks H, with a space between them large enough to admit the. clasp I, which works upon a hinge at the end of the band D.
The concave K, Figs. l and 2, is to be made in the sameshape as seen in the model and drawings. It is attached to the lower end of the socket A, and the rod C passes through it to the point E.
This machine is to be made in the same proportions in relation to its different parts as seen in drawings and model.
To make a broom, open the clamp by means ot' the hinge Gr, Fig. l, place the broom-corn in the concave K, letting it rest on 'the band D, so that the band F may be brought over and fastened without difculty by means of the clasp I. When this is done the broomcorn must be pressed tightly together, and enough forced in on each side ofthe clamp to iill it. Its elasticity will cause it to remain firmly in the clamp, as shown by model.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the socket A, concave K, rod O, with bands D and F, united by the hinge G, and secured by the clasp I and hooks H, the whole arranged and combined in the manner and for the purpose herein above set forth.
NICHOLAS HALL.
