Be it known that I, RUDOLPH S. VITT, of the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Prescription-Stands, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact dei scription, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

The object of this invention is to provide improved means for holding prescriptions, bills and other articles of au analogous nature.

This invention consists in a combination of a suitable support, an angle plate mounted on said support, a tiling plate, spring clamps carried on said ling plate and adapted to retain the prescriptions, and lazy-tong connection between said filing plate and the angle plate.

This invention consists further, in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.

Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing my device applied as required for practical use, the dotted lines indicating the position assumed by the bars when closed. Figs. 2, 3, 4 and 5 represent mechanical elements hereinafter minutel y described.

In the construction of the device as shown, the numeral 10 designates a support such as the outer edge of a shelf, and mounted upon the forward surface of said support is an angle plate 11. Pivotally connected to the central portion of the angle plate 11, is a lazytongs 12, the outer ends of which lazy-tongs are provided with loops 13, 111 (Fig. 3) embracing and having sliding connection with a bar 15, (Fig. 4.) Rigidly connected to the central portion of the bar 15 and depending therefrom, is a filing plate 16, having the lower end portion thereof curved forwardly. Mounted upon the lower portion of the filing plate 16 and extending in front of and above the lower edge of said plate, is a spring clamp 17 (Fig. 5) comprising the bar 18, adapted to lie parallel with and approximate to the plate 16, and arched resilient end portions 19, 20, having bossed extremities 21, 22, adapted to be riveted to the said plate. Mounted on the bar 15 and embracing the upper end portion of the plate 16, is a clamp 17, identical in construction with thel one shown in Fig. 5. This clamp is in an inverted position relative to the clamp shown in the lower end of the plate 16, the said clamps respectively engaging the upper and lower end portions of the prescriptions or other articles to be tiled. One of the bars of the lazy-tongs is shown and detailed in Fig. 2.

In the practical use of this invention, the device being in the position shown in Fig. 1, a prescription about to be compounded is positioned upon the face of the tiling plate 16, and beneath the clamps 17, 17. The prescription is now in position to be readily and conveniently read and examined by the prescription clerk and is rigidly retained in a given position by the clamps, thus obviating the possibility of its being lost from accidental displacement bya draft of air. After the prescription has been compounded and docketed, the device is collapsed, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, by the contraction of the lazy-tongs, this collapsing being eifected by the manual depression of the tiling plate and bar 15, toward the support 10. By this means a convenient tile is produced presenting at all times to view the last compounded prescription, or in the event of letters or other articles being filed in said device, the latest one iled'will of necessity appear on the surface, thus rendering the examination thereof convenient. The improved prescription holder, comprising a plate 11, lazy tongs l2 pivotally connected at one end to the upper surface of said plate, so that saidplate forms a horizontal support for said tongs, guiding loops 13 and 14: fixed vertically, one upon each of the free projecting arms of said lazy tongs, a horizontal bar 15 loosely mounted to slide in said loops, and a vertical plate 16 fixed upon said bar in the space between said loops, and provided with suitable clamps for holding the the prescriptions, substantially as herein specified.
