Be it known that I, JAMES HOOP, a citizen exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The present invention has relation to that class of hand-stamps provided with means for automatically inking the type,`and has for its obj ect to materially improve the construction thereof and render the stamp more conveniently operated and enable a number of dissimilar stamps to be used upon the same holderwithout removing and replacing them by others.
The above objectsI attain by the construction substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed. Figure 1 of the drawings represents a side elevation of a hand-stamp constructed in accordance with my invention, a portion of the stamp being partly in section; Fig. .2, an end view thereof; Fig. 3, a detail sectional view taken on line oc of Fig. l; Fig. 4, detail perspective views of the locking-nut and the end of the arm with which it engages.
In the accompanying drawings A represents the frame of the stamp to which is rigidly connected the tubular guide B, said guide extending up into the hollow handle C which handle is secured to a yoke D.
The frame A has guide-slots a at its sides through which pass the pins b and in the hollow guide B is located a spiral spring c for the purpose of forcing up the yoke D to its normal position after being depressed when making an impression.
The several parts of the stamp above described are of the usual construction and may be changed or modified at pleasurewithout departing from the principle of the invention.
A stamp-holder E is connected to the arms d of the yoke D, by means of the pins b which are screw threaded at their inner ends to engage with screw threaded holes in a core c of the holder. The holder E is polygonal in shape to adapt it for holding a number of dissimilar rubber-stamps as shown at F, Fig. 3 of the drawings, said stamps being connected to the holderin any well known and preferred IDELIIUOI.
The holder E is rendered ustable to bring with one of a plurality of holes gin the end l of one of the arms d. The `pins bhave heads 7L and the pins `extend through holes z' inthe arms d and through the guide-slots a of the frame. One ofthe pins is formed with a dat sided shank to extend through a correspond` ingly formed hole 7.: in the nut G, so that the pin will not turn upon its axis after the stampholder is lockedin its adjusted position. A spiral or other suitable spring Z is located between the head of the pin b and the nut Gr, and in the present instance said spring is coiled around the shank of the pin, as shown yin Fig. l of the drawings.
When it is desired to adjust the stampholder to bring any particular rubber-stamp in position for use, the nut is moved outward until the spur thereon is disengaged with the hole in the arm of the yoke when the stampholder may be rotated upon its axis, using the nut as a thumb-piece for this purpose. After the stamp-holder has been properly adjusted the spring will force the nut back to its former position and cause/the spur thereon to engage with the proper one of the holes in the arm, and hold it so engaged until the stamp-holder is again adjusted.
The frame A has slots m which extend substantially parallel with the guide-slots a, and through these slots extend pins n which are connected to the curved extremities o of the arms d and to a bracket or hanger I-I located upon the inside of the frame A. The bracketV or hanger I-I is pivoted at p to the inner side of the frame A and the pin frtconnects with the bracket or hanger by extending through a slot r thereof. Previous to thestarnp being depressed, the movable parts will assume the position shown in Figs. l and 2 of the drawings, and when depressed to take an impresin the slotted extensions r will force out the hanger or bracket H to the position shownin IOO Fig. 3. In this position the bracket or hanger is entirely out of the way of the descending stamp-holder, and the means employed for connecting the pad-holder K to the bracket or hanger H consists of the screws s which form a pivotal connection between the padholder and bracket or hanger, thereby allowing the holder with its ink-pad to adj ust itself to bring its surface on the same plane with the surface of the rubber type and thus insure the type being uniformly inked.
The rubber-stamp holder may be made of l wood or of any other preferred material found best adapted to the purpose and the rubber type may be separate andindependent of each other and inserted in the face of the holder as shown in Fig. 3.
The ink-pad holder may be conveniently;
disconnected from the bracket or hanger and i replaced bya new one or a new pad connected to the holder as found desirable.
The ink-pad comes in contact with the rubber typeon the upward movement of the yoke and remains in contact while the stamp is not in use, and when downward pressureis brought upon the yoke, the pad through its connections therewith will be forced outward.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a hand -stamp, an adjustable holder adapted to receive rubber stamps upon its surface, and an automatically `operating inking device, consisting of a hanger or bracket having slotted vextensions at right angles thereto which are pivoted to the frame of the stamp,
the ends of the yoke carrying the stamp-rV holder engaging with the slotted 'extensions and with slots in the sides of the frame, and a pad-holder pivotally connected 'to the hanger or bracket, substantially v'as and for 1 the `purpose described.
