H. 0. R0 OP. GULTIVATOE.
No. 532,012. Padtented Jan 1, 1895.-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY O. ROOP, OF CARROLLTON, GEORGIA.
CULTIVATOR.
SPECIFZEGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 532,012, dated January 1, 1895.
Application filed August 6, 1 894.
To 0:55 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY O. ROOF, of Carrollton, in the county of Carroll and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved cultivator; and the same is especially directed to the provision of an improved adjustable sweep and device for securing the same in position on implements of the class stated.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved implement. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the sweep. Fig. 4 is a detached view of the bull tongue.
A designates the beam of the implement and B the bifurcated stock which may be secured thereto in the usual or any preferred manner. The bull tongue 0 is slotted verticallyat D to register with the bifurcations of the standard and secured immediately in front of the bull tongue and clamped to the standard along with the tongue by means of clamping bolt E are sweep wings F. These wings are pivoted together at their lower edges as shown at G and each is provided with a curved slot H above and concentric with the said pivotal point and through these slots the securing bolt E passes. By means of this Serial No. 519,580. (No model.)
arrangement it will be seen that the sweep 4o wings may be extended horizontally or they may be turned upon their connecting pivotand by means of the curved slot moved on the clamping bolt into any desired position, as for instance that indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1. By means of this vertical slot the bull tongue may also be adjusted to any desired position, thus accommodating itself to the work in hand and avoiding the necessity of maintaining several tongues of difierent lengths.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A cultivator provided with laterally extended wings, a pivot connecting them at their adjacent ends, each wing being provided with a curved slot concentric with the said pivotal point, the said slot registering when the wings are overlapped, and a fastening bolt for securing the wings in any desired adjustment, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination in a cultivator, with a beam and a standard, of a removable bull tongue, the wings is entirely independent of the standard and bull tongue and which are positively secured together at one edge and slotted at H where they overlap and a single bolt E for passing through the slots H and securing the said pivotally connected wings as well as the bull tongue to the standard, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
