UNITED STATES PATENT @triest GEORGE J. BURTSCIIER, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF 'IO D. S. HALTER, OF SAME PLACE.-
FLUE-CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 531,716, dated January 1, 1 895.
Application filed Apri] 1S, 1894.
To @ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE J. BURTSGHER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Canton, county of Stark, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flue-Oaps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in caps for chimney7 fines, and consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure l, of the accompanying drawings is a View in perspective of a flue cap illustrating my invention. Fig. 2, is a section through the center of the cap, and Fig. 3, is a section longitudinally through the slide.
A represents the cap having a iange B secured thereto as shown, to enter the flue thimble and support centrally thereover. Centrally of the cap is secured a spring C to the end portions of which is secured the tivo parts a and h, of the inside or closing head D, the parts u and h to overlap each -other as shown the part b having in the overlapping portion, an elongated aperture c through which is passed a rivet as d which is secured in the Serial No. 5071684. (No model.)
part a as shown, whereby is formed a sliding joint to allow the outer edges of the parts to adapt themselves to the inside Wall of the thimble or flue. I have used the Word [ine or thimble to designate the aperture through the chimney Wall tothe flue therein.
The object-of the invention as Will be clearly seen, is to form a protection to the cap, by keeping the re therefrom, and to keep the soot back in the thimble, so that when the cap is removed, soot will not tall out of the thimble into the rooms.
Having thus fully described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim isl. As a new article of manufacture, the Iiue cap A, having the iange or rim B, the spring C, parts a and h that form the head D, the elongated aperture and the rivet d, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination With the tine cap A, of the spring C, and over-lapping parts o: and h, that form the head D, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day ot' March, A. D. 189i GEORGE J. BURTSCHER.
