- H. G. ROU-NDS. COMBINED STEP LADDER, IRONING- TABLE, AND WASHBENCH.
. Patented Dec. 11
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERBERT G. ROUNDS, OF WEST BAY CITY, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED STEP-LADDER; lRONlNG-TABLE, AND WASHBENCH.
SPECIFICATION, forming part of Letters Patent No. 530,625, dated December 11,1894. Application fi1etlA.ug11s t20,1894. Serial in. 520,777. on model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERBERT G. RoUNDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Bay City, in the county of Bay and State of Michigan, haveinvented a certain new and useful Combined Step-Ladder, Ironing-Table, and Washbench and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and 7 use the same, reference being had to the ac- Fig. 2 is a perspective of the ironing table.-
Fig. 3 is a perspective of the wash bench.
In the drawings, A are the sides of the stepladder containing the steps S, and A are the back legs of the ladder hinged at their top to the front by hinges H.
B is the shelf for a basket or other article pivotally connected to the back legs. Theends of this shelf projecting toward the ladder are provided with hooks B extending upward which engage pins on the legs A and hold the ladder in position. The inner ends of this shelf at. the side of the hooks are notched at B" to engage one of the steps of the ladder when placed as in Fig. 3.
O, O, are pivoted straps for holding the parts of the ladder in the position shown in Fig. 2, viz: as an ironing table. It is obvious that a chain or its equivalent would do as well.
D are secondary bars inclosed within the back legs A to which they are pivoted at their lower ends. The upper ends of these secondary bars are notched at D as shown. These notches are for the purpose of engaging the lower step of the ladder when placed in the position shown in Fig. 3.
R. is an eccentric roller across the end of the shelf B adapted to turn over upon the end of the ironing board E and clamp it as' hereinafter mentioned.
E is the ironing board of usual shape except that its large end has two notches E',one on each corner. This end is adapted to be placed under the eccentric roller R and between the side pieces .of the shelf B and across the top step of the ladder. A pin E" passes through the board E into the socket A" in the step. Turning the eccentric R over clamp the board in position.
When used as a wash benchthe secondary bars D are turned out and engage the lower step as described. The hooks B are loosened and the notched ends B" lowered to engage one of thesteps of the ladder. Then turning the ladder over with the steps upward, a bench will be formed as shown in Fig. 3, upon which tubs, 850., may be placed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A new article of manufacture, a combined step-ladder, ironing table, and wash bench consistingof the ladder, the folding shelf provided with hooks B and notches B" on the inner end, and an eccentric roller across the outer end, stay straps O, O, and the secondary frame D pivoted to the rear legs of the ladder, and the board, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a step ladder provided with a folding shelf having hooks upon its inner end to engage the ladder and hold it, an eccentric roller on its outer end, and the stay straps O, C, of the board E adapted to rest across the upper step of the ladder with one end under the roller, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERBERT G. ROUNDS.
Witnesses:
A. H. SWARTHOUT, FANNIE ROBBINS.
