Description

(No Model.) I
R. T. 'BEC'KETT. MACHINE FOR MOLDING GLASS.
No. 529,694. Patented Nov. 27, I894.
. I iNVENTUR WITNESSES;
(ii MM M ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD TIIORN BEOKETT, or WOODBURY, NEW JERSEY.
MACHINE FOR MOLDING GLASS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,694, dated November 27, 1894.
I Application filed April 12, 1893. Serial No. 470,025. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD THORN BECK- ETT, of Woodbury, in the county of Gloucester and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Machines'for Molding Glass, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relates particularly to receivers employed in machines for molding glass. 7
In receivers as heretofore constructed, the supporting or operating arms have been attached to the body portion of the mold and at the attaching point the metal of the mold has been thickened to provide the necessary screw hold. It is obvious thata mold having uneven thickness will be unevenly heated and this uneven heating often causes the cracking of the article molded at a point in contact with the'portionof the mold having the greatest thickness orlowest temperature. The object of my improvement is to obviate this difficulty.
I will describe a receiver embodying my improvement and then point out the novel features in a claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1. is a front elevation of a receiver embodying my invention and Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Referring by reference characters to the drawings, A, A designate the two sections of the mold consisting of any suitable material such as metal. The sections may have interlocking parts to prevent a possible vertical movement of one section relatively to the other. For this purpose I have shown one of the sections as provided with tongues or lugs a and the other with notches or depressions 01. into which the tongues 0r lugs a engage. At each end the sections are 'provided with salient parts projected outward beyond the 0 body portion of the mold. To the salient parts supporting bars or plates B, B are secured, by means of screws a or otherwise. It will be seen by this construction that the sup-' porting bars or plates B, B are remote from the body portion of the mold and therefore the said body portion has an even thickness throughout and may be evenly heated throughout its whole area. I have shown arms 0, 0 extended from the bars or plates B B Having described my invention, what I claim is- In a glass receiver or mold, the combination of a number of sections of substantially uniform thickness throughout, having lateral extensions near their extremities and provided with dowel pins and corresponding recesses upon their superimposed faces, rods or plates attached to said lateral extensions and span- 6o ning the intermediate portions of the sections, and supporting or operating bars or links attached to said rods or'plates, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specifiation in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
RICHARD THORN BECKETT.
