0. STORZQ F. SORG& P. HENNI. TABLE.
No. 529,210. Patented Nov. is, 1894;

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN STORZ, FERDINAND SORG, AND FREDRIK HENNI, OF PHILA- DELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 529,210, dated November 13, 1894.
Application filed May 3,1894- Serial No.'509,968. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
7 Be it known that we, OHRIsTIAN STORZ, FERDINAND Sons, and FREDRIK HENNI, the said STORZ being a subject of the King of Prussia, having resided in the United States one year last past and declared-his intention of becoming a citizen thereof; the said SORG being a citizen of the United States, and the said HENNI being a subject of the King of Prussia, having resided in the United States one year last past and declared his intention of becoming a citizen thereof, all residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tables, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
Our invention consists of a table adapted for invalids and others, wherein the table-top or tray may be placed in horizontal and inclined positions, and folded when required, said tray being adapted to be projected over the limbs of the person occupying a'bed, while the table may be supported on feet, portions of which may be placed under the bed, avoiding the use of clamps or other attachments on the bedstead, the construction and operation of parts being hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a table embodying our invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of a portion thereof. Fig. -3 represents a rear view of a portion thereof. Fig. 4 represents a side elevation of a portion showing the tray or table-top in folded position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings: A designates a standard formed of the parts B and C, fitted to each other telescopically, and provided with the set screw D, by which provision the standard may be adjusted in height.
In the part B are secured the feet E and F, the foot F being long, so as to prevent overturning of the table, and when in use may be placed under the bed.
Connected with the top of the part 0 of the standard, is a horizontal head G, to which is hinged the angular-shaped block H, whose sides are inclined as at H, to the apex of which latter is pivoted or hinged the tray J, it being noticed that the axis J of said tray is at a right angle to that of G of said block.
Depending from the axial end of the tray J, and secured thereto as at N, is a segment P, which passes freely through an eye Q on the block H, said eye being provided with a set screw Q, it being seen that the tray may be turned on its axis, and placed in inclined positions to the right or left as the case may be, the sides of the block ll readily permitting said positions. \Vhen the tray is adjusted, the screw Q is tightened, whereby the segment and consequently the tray is held or controlled.
Depending from the block H is a spring catch K, whose nose L is adapted to enter an opening M inthe head G, and thus retain said head and consequently the tray in horizontal position, which in the present case, is over the bed, so that the occupant of the latter may readily use the tray for holding dishes, food, reading and writing matter, 860., but to such use, we do not limit our invention.
When the tableis drawn back from the bedstead, the catch K is drawn out, whereby the tray may be placed in upright position or folded, as shown in Fig. 4, while the vertical limb of the block H abuts upon and rests against part of the top-of the head G, as a support for the vertical position of the tray.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A table formed of a support having a horizontal head, an angular shaped block hinged to said head, a tray pivoted to the apex of said block, means for locking said tray on said block, and means for locking said block to said head, the axes of said tray and block being at right angles to each other; said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A table having a support with a horizontal head, a block having inclined sides hinged to said head, a tray pivoted to the top of said block, a segment depending from said tray, and means for locking said segment to said block, the axis of said block and tray being at right angles to each other, said parts being combined substantially as described.
3. A tray, an angular block having inclined sides to the apex of which the same is hinged, a horizontal head to which said block is hinged, and a supporting standard for said head, in combination with a catch connecting said block and head, the axes of said tray and block being at a right angle to each other, all substantially as described.
4. A table consisting of a tray a block with inclined sides to the apex of which the same is hinged, a horizontal head to which said block is hinged, and a supporting standard for said head, the axes of said block and head being at a right angle to each other, in combination with a segment which depends from said tray, an eye secured to said block and having the segment pass freely through the same, a set screw in the eye engaging said segment, and a catch connecting said block and head, all substantially as described.
5. A horizontal head, a supporting standard therefor a tray and a segment depending from said tray, in combination with an angular block having inclined sides and being intermediate of said head and tray, an eye on said block through which said segment freely passes, a set screw on said eye for said segment, and a catch connecting said block and head, the tray being hinged to the apex of said block, and the latter being hinged to said head, the axes of the block and head being at a right angle to each other, and the sides of the block being inclined, all substantially as described.
