Description

TATES PATENT N. B. COOPER, OF GRATIS, OHIO.
BROOIVI-HEAD.
To all whom it' may concern:
Be it known that I, N. B. COOPER, of Gratis, Preble count-y, Ohio, have invented certain new aud useful Improvements in Broom-Heads and I hereby declare that the following is ycenter the socket B, for the insertion of the handle d.
C represents two narrow strips of metal soldered iirmly to the sides of the broom-head at their lower end. (See Fig. 2.) The open space between A and C will admit of the swelling of the broom-straw when compressed both above and below this open space, and this enlargement of the material will tend to keep itin its proper place. The broom will be further secured in position by the barbed extension of the I broom-handle d, and also by the rivets s, which will increase the compression by forcing together the strips C. When the broom-straw is securely fastened to the barbed end of d the handle l is then thrust through the socket B from below and the rivets added to compress the straw, in the manner above described.
It will be observed that the barbed end of d and the riveted strips will give the broom acompactness and soliditythat will keep it in form until worn out by constant use.
The advantage of my mode of construction is that any one, by providing himself with broom-heads, as here described, will be able to manufacture his own brooms.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The barbed end of handle d, in combination with the broom-head A, furnished with strips C, the whole constructed and operating as and for the purpose substantially as herein set forth.
N. B. COOPER. Witnesses: A. STIVERs,
N. H. COOPER.
