SASH-LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,686, dated October 16, 1894.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN A. HASENPFLUG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of 5 Ohio, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements in Sash-Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it apro pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in sash locks, and the invention consists in the construction of a lock substantially as shown and described and particularly pointed out in In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is abottom view of the lock complete, and showing the parts in the relation they sustain when the lock is open. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same parts, and showing the look as it appears when half way closed. Fig. 3 is a crosssection of the lock and meeting rails of the two sashes on a line corresponding to 3, 3, Fig. 2, the same showing the relation of all z 5 said parts when they are in the half way position. Fig. 4 is a bottom perspective view of the lock case and a part of the mechanism connected therewith. Fig. 5 is a top perspective view of the locking bolt or reach.

About the top of said slot said post is provided with a depression or cavity 10 of sufficient width and depth to accommodate the cam C, which is set wholly into said. cavity and is flush with the top surface of the There also is a lateral recess -11- at one end of the cavity 10 adapted to receive and pocket the cam point 6- of the cam C when the bolt is in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or in any intermediate position between said points; but when the bolt is thrown into full locking position by carrying the handle 3 around to the position shown in dotted lines at the right of Fig. 2, the cam 6 will be turned from its pocket -1lwith its arm against the end of the recess 10 which will force the said bolt back and thus cause it to draw the sashes together. Meanwhile the bolt is confined to a certain back and forth movement and cannot turn by reason of a lug 14-- on its top and rear which engages in the groove or channel 16 atthe side of hub --2 on the inside of the casing A, as clearly seen in Fig. 4. This chan nel in the main is concentric with the post fined therein in all its operations. When the parts are in the relation shown in Fig. 1, and the bolt is within the case, the lug 14. is in the circular part of said channel, and when it is drawn back the lug enters the space 17 and then the bolt is kept from turning and can only slide back and forth.

In the reverse movement the cam G acts first by turning handle 3 back to half way place and bringing lug 14: to curved channel -16-. Then a further turn restores all the parts to place as in Fig. 1 and the lock is open and retired.
When the cam C entersits projection -6 into recess --11- as the handle reaches the position in Fig. 2 from the position in dotted lines said figure, the bolt becomes engaged with or by the cam and is forced to rotate from position in Fig. 2 to position in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is-- I 1. In a sash lock, the casing formed in asingle piece, the handled post, a cam fixed rigidly on said post inside the casing, and the locking bolt suspended on said post beneath 25 said cam and constructed to be engaged and operated by the cam, said bolt having a projection on its top, and a channel and stop on and a locking bolt provided with a longitudi- 3 5 nal slot through which the said post passes and constructed about said slot for engagement by the said cam and having a projection to engage in the said channel about the said hub, substantially as set forth.
