SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,086, dated October 9, 1894.

To all whom it may concern:

In the following description, reference is Y had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1. is 'a sectional side View drawn through the center of an overshoe heel, showing the securing arm complete, and having dotted lines to indicate the released position.

A supporting plate A is fitted to the inside i of the over-shoe h'eel and extends from the top downward far enough to obtain a good bearing against the inside'of the shoe heel.

A corresponding.hinge-carrying plate B is adapted to lit the outside of the heel and may be riveted to the plate A, or formed integral therewith, as shown. The plate B carries at its lower edge,vt'wo hinge bearings or loops C C, which are constructed to press elastically against the shoe heel for the purpose of binding the heel between the loops C C and lthe plate A. A wire or bar passes through the loops C C and curves around to the sides of the heel, to'form the retaining arms E E, provided at their extremities with the bearings F F. The arms E E are elastic and so bent or curved as to press the bearings F F tightly against the sides of the shoe heel when in position. Between the hinge bearings or loops C C, a lip G projects downward from the bar, curving slightly outward or away from the shoe heel at its lower eX- tremity. This lip may be formed by a central loop of the wire or bar, as shown in the drawings, or it may be made independently and then attached rigidly to the bar.

To release the over shoe the lip G is pulled outward and upward, and away from the heel to the Aposition indicated by the dotted lines in Figs. l and 3.

It is obvious that this construction is very simple, cheap and convenient. The plates A and B and hinge loops C C' may all be constructed of one piece, or formed from a single wire bent to conform substantially to the outlines of the plates.

The device can be made in ornamental form or constructed with extreme simplicity and blackened so as to be inconspicuous, ac-

cording to the pleasure of the` wearer.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. An overshoe securer, consisting of the combination with the heelof an overshoe or rubber, of a hinge loop or loops attached to the rear outer surface of the heel, retaining bars or arms hinged to said loop or loops and extending around to the sides of the heel and adapted to press against the sides, and a downward projecting lip -attached rigidly to said retaining arms and adapted to serve as a lever for engaging or disengaging said retaining arms, substantially as described..

2.
