l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
`GEORGE A. OIRANE, OE CLEVELAND, OIIIO.`
STEAM-BOILER SUPPORT AND WALL.
SIEOIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 527,052, dated October 9, 1894. Application filed September 25| 1893. Serial No. 436,391- (No model.)
To @AZZ whom it may concer-r1,.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. CRANE, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Clevef land,in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Boiler Supports and Valls; and Ido hereby declare that the fol,- lowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to steam boiler supports and walls, and the object of the invention is to provide a support wherebya boiler may be rotated at will in orderto make any repairs therein, and for other purposes, substantially as shown and described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plain elevation of a boiler of the kind I have invented, and a sectional elevation of the in'closing Wall thereof. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the boiler and Wall on a line corresponding to so, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a plan View 0f the turn table upon which the boiler rests, and Fig. 4 is a vertical central sectional elevation of the lower part of the boiler, and of its base and supports, as hereinafter more fully described.
`A represents the boiler cylinder, and B the boiler tubes bent and arranged in the shape shown, and fastened securely in the boiler,
but so that they can be removed if occasion requires. It will be understood that these tubes are exposed to the re, which is built upon the grate C, and it might occur that some of them become warped or leaky, or defective in some other Way and render replacement necessary. It is obvious that if a boiler thus constructed were placed upon a fixed base and were removable, and it become necessary to remove the tubes at the sideor rear, the walls would have to be broken down to get at the tube that needed fixing. I have, therefore, sought to overcome this objection, first, by rendering the boiler rotatable upon its base, and secondly, by providing the wall opposite the tubes with suitable doors, Iso that it can be entered and remove or repair any tube that may require attention.
The foundations upon which the boiler stands have a fixed turn table D with rollers -dat intervals, and the base E of the boiler vis supported upon this turn table and has a skirting -eoverlapping the turn table more or less and serving'partly as a guide and support for the boiler upon the turn table, a central pivot pin g fixing the relation of the parts. Thus, it occurs that the entire Weight of the boiler is supported upon the wheels d, and when the pipes G and H at the top and bottom of the boiler, respectively, are detached, the boiler is free to be rotated to any position and as much as may be desired. NOW in order that the further facility for approaching the tubes 'B maybe aiorded,Icon struct the WallK With one or more doors -c of such size as will enable one to enter the inside of the furnace through theV wall and approach and handle the tubes B with tools, as may be required. This construction and arrangement enables me to get at any one of the tubes in the boiler with convenience and dispatch and Without cutting the Wall or doing any damage whatsoever to any of the parts.
Two or more boilers maybe inclosed within the same Wall and have doors opposite each other in the same manner as in the drawings here shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l A stationary inclosing Wall having adoor at about its center, in combination with a vertical boiler having removable U shaped tubes about its center opposite said door, a
GEORGE A. CRANE.
